Mavericks pick up two

Week salvaged as North Country recovers from loss to Malta

The North Country Mavericks were able to clean up what started off as a rough week.

The team lost in three sets to the Malta M-ettes last Tuesday, but then picked up two wins this weekend against the Lustre Christian Lions and Poplar Indians, making them 2-1 on the week.

In their loss to Malta, the scores were 25-15, 26-24 and 25-23.

North Country was led by Mickayla Johnson, who had 10 of the team’s 24 kills and four digs. Casity Boucher had 12 of the team’s 18 assists. Sydney Zeller and Bailey Funk accounted for the team’s six aces, posting three apiece.

The team was able to turn things around last Friday, September 15 as they overmatched the Lions, defeating them in three frames, the scores being 25-18, 25-21 and 25-17.

North County was led by Jada Sudbrack and Johnson, who both had ten kills.

Boucher had the team lead in assists with 17. Johnson led in blocks with four and in digs with three. Sudbrack had four aces.

The team had 34 kills, 20 assists, 13 aces, 10 digs and five blocks.

The Mavericks defeated the Poplar Indians on Saturday, September 16 in three sets. The scores were 25-23, 25-16 and 25-15.

North Country was led by Sudbrack who led the team in four categories, with six kills, 15 digs, seven aces and four blocks. Boucher had 25 assists.

The team totals were 21 kills, 50 digs, 29 assists, 16 aces and five blocks.

The Mavericks will have their hands full as they face a couple of Class B teams this week. They are scheduled to play Wolf Point Thursday, September 21, in Saco at 5 p.m. The team will then head north to Whitewater to face Harlem on Friday, September 22, at 5 p.m. The last team they are scheduled to face is District opponent Brockton in Brockton Saturday, September 23, at 5 p.m.
