Mavs split two games

North Country defeats Poplar and falls to Scobey

The North Country Mavericks had a bittersweet weekend as they were able to defeat a Class B team but would later fall to a divisional rival.

The Mavericks opened their weekend with a win over the Poplar Indians in Poplar on Friday, October 6. The scores were 27-25, 25-19 and 26-24.

North Country was led by Mickayla Johnson, who had 10 kills. The team had 24 total kills.

Casity Boucher had 18 of 20 assists. Jada Sudbrack had two blocks. Bailey Funk had seven aces and Sydney Zeller had five digs.

The Mavericks would go on to face the Scobey Spartans in Hinsdale last Saturday night. Scobey won in three. The score were 25-23, 25-11 and 25-13.

Johnson led in kills, registering six of the team’s 18. Boucher would have seven of the team’s nine assists. Sudbrack and Kaitlyn McColly would each have three blocks. Sudbrack and Danika Soper each had two aces. Elise Strommen had three digs.

For Scobey, Kylee Cook led with seven kills. Katelyn Lamb had 17 assists and four aces. Kortney Nelson had 10 digs.

The Mavericks are scheduled to face the Lustre Christian Lions in Lustre on Friday, October 13. The varsity game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

The team will then travel to Brockton to face the Warriors on Saturday night at 5 p.m.

The Mavericks’ final regular season game will be played in Nashua as they take on the Nashua-Opheim Rivals. The junior varsity game is set for 5 p.m. The varsity game is scheduled twenty minutes after.

The 3C District Tournament will be held in Scobey starting on Friday, October 27 and ending on Saturday, October 28.
