One Nation, Under God

I'm with the victims

I hate to say this but this one isn’t for the kids.

When Matt Lauer was fired from NBC for inappropriate sexual behavior, some people were quick to blame the victims and the media. Why is it so hard for people to accept that sometimes terrible things actually happen and that not everything is a conservative or liberal conspiracy?

I know that not every person in a position of power uses their power to make sexual advances, but in this case when you have someone apologize for their behavior like Lauer did, yes they were probably in the wrong.

I will go even further to say that even if it was consensual, Lauer was wrong for what he did. You don’t just lock the door and trap someone in your office the way he did with pure intentions.

I blame the culture of our country for this. As they say, “sex sells.” It seems that you can’t watch a half hour television show without there being some kind of sexual reference being thrown in your face. Because of this mentality, many people think, I gotta get some.

I remember when I was a kid, yes a kid, sex was being discussed on the school bus and at school.

By some miracle, I was a virgin until I got married. I am not ashamed of that fact. The truth is that I have had a few opportunities to give up what I knew as sacred. But I had parents that told me to not have any kids until I was married.

My parents love for each other, my high school’s Sex Education classes and my faith in God helped. I didn’t want to give up my “purity” to just anyone. I didn’t want any sexually transmitted diseases and I have seen enough pictures of those diseases to keep my germs to myself.

So to hear that people are being violated against their will sexually, I hope the truth comes out for these victims.

Of course, yes the accused could be innocent. But I know that if I had a daughter that came to me claiming that someone influential took advantage of her in the way that these women are claiming, I would believe her.

I don’t care if you are President Clinton, Trump, Roy Moore, Matt Lauer, Al Franken, Bill Cosby, etc., if you have used your position of power to abuse women sexually, especially in a non-consensual way, it is wrong.

Scripturally, women are a gift from God and I believe they deserve better from us as men.
