M-ettes fall to Harlem, Poplar

Offensive woes continue as young team builds chemistry

The Malta M-ettes had a rough outing against 2B opponents last week, losing to the Harlem Wildcats last Friday, December 15, in Harlem and then to the Poplar Indians on Saturday, December 16, in Malta.

In Malta's home opener against Poplar, Malta struggled to score against Poplar's starting five, including 6-foot-2 post Imani Bighorn who scored 28 points and had 11 rebounds.

Malta was led by sophomore Kelbee Denham who had nine points, three steals and two assists. Senior Ella Schye had eight points and four rebounds.

Despite the mismatch of height, Malta outrebounded Poplar 31 to 28, but Malta's 30 turnovers would prove costly as Poplar scored 26 points off those forced turnovers.

In Malta's 64-34 loss to Harlem, Malta was led by junior Taylor Gilkerson who scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Taylor Eggebrecht had five points. Janessa Malmend, Kyleigh Schipman and Wylee Young each had four points. Malta shot 22-percent from the field (11-48), while Harlem made 49-percent of their shots from the field (26-53).

Malta will see Wolf Point in Malta in Friday, December 22. The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
