City will undergo total blackout Monday night

A total blackout is scheduled for Monday evening, May 3, at which time all branches of the local civilian defense corps will be in action, according to Commander Frank Squires, who states that the total blackout is in anticipation of an army-conduct test to be held in Malta about May 22.

Various "incidents" will be reported on Monday night and defense corps machinery will function as if an actual blackout were being experienced. Residents of Malta are asked by commander Squires to cooperate to the fullest extent in this important test. All house lights are going to be extinguished from 9:30 to 9:45 o'clock. Cars on the streets will be asked to pull over to the curb and extinguish lights. All lights in the city will be out.

Commander Squires says the defense corps is functioning smoothly and that residents of Malta have shown a fine cooperative spirit in the previous test. He believes the Monday night's test will be a satisfactory workout of all defense corps units.
