Erickson sisters win seven events

Glasgow’s Scottie Field served as the site for the Porcupine Middle School meet on Friday, April 20. Though there were not team scores, there were several top finishes amongst the three Phillips County Class C Schools.

In the girls events, Saco’s Jaycee Erickson won a haul of events, taking first in the 100 meter hurdles with a personal record (PR) time of 19.04 seconds, first in the 200 hurdles with a season record (SR) time of 34.54, first in pole vault after clearing 7-6 (PR), and taking first in triple jump with a length of 27-9 (SR). Erickson also took second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:56.7 (SR).

Teagan Erickson, a Saco sixth grader and younger sister of Jaycee, pulled off a hat trick winning the 800 with a time of 2:55.6 (PR), taking first in high jump by clearing 4-4 (PR) and taking fifth in the long jump with a length of 12-11.5 (PR). T. Erickson also took fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:19.84 (PR)

The Erickson sisters won a total of seven events at the meet.

Whitewater’s Hannah Hanley, an eighth-grader, took first place in the 100 with a time of 14.94 (PR) and first in the 200 with a time of 30.94 (PR). Hanley also took third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 19.54 (PR), fourth in the 200 hurdles with a time of 35.84 (SR), and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 11-9 (PR).

Saco sixth grader Josie Brown took second place in pole vault clearing 6-0 (PR), second in long jump leaving a mark at 12-5 (PR), third in the 100 with a time of 15.24 (PR), and third in the 200 with a time of 31.54 (PR).

Whitewater’s Kora LaBrie took second in discus with a throw of 56-11 (PR), and fourth in the 800 with a time of 3:05.9.

Whitewater's Kendra Cummings was in good spirits after improving her personal best in shot put by a few feet. She took fifth in shot put with a throw of 25-05.

“I just practice, I guess,” Cummings said. “I did the same thing that I usually do. I just need to get my arm up (next time) and look towards the trees.”

Cummings like many around the track was thrilled to be a part of the outdoor event.

“It feels a lot nicer being outside than being stuck in the gym all day,” Cummings said.

In the boys action, Dodson’s Mikey Jaynes, an eighth grader, nearly pulled off a hat-trick by winning the 800 meter run with a time of 2:37.8 (PR), winning the high jump with a height of 5-2 (PR), and taking third in the long jump with a length of 13-2.5 (SR).

Jaynes was proud of his 800 time.

“I think it was pretty good,” Jaynes said. “It’s the first time I ever ran the 800 but I think it was pretty good.”

He shared his approach to the run, which occurred at a windier part of the day.

“I was just trying to keep my pace, not let them get too far ahead, and I wanted to kick it in during the last lap and pass them.”

“It feels good, especially for the first track meet,” Jaynes said.

Dodson’s Juliun Benson took second in the 200 hurdles with a time of 35.94 (PR).

Saco sixth grader Marshall Caves took third in pole vault after clearing 5-6 (PR).
