Ace Duvall

Charles Asa “Ace” Duvall, 83, a 52 year resident of Elma, died at Providence St. Peter Hospital, Olympia, Wash., Friday, May 25, 2018. He was born in Havre, Mont. on March 12, 1935, the son of Theodore and Margaret (Wright) Duvall. He was raised at Landusky, Mont. and attended schools there.

He entered the Army and was last stationed at Ft. Lewis, electing to remain in the Northwest after he was discharged. He had learned to be a mechanic and heavy equipment operator and had worked on the Elma nuclear plant and as a pipefitter at Bremerton.

He had an earlier marriage that ended in divorce and on July 1, 1977, he married Arv Whipple in Montesano.

Ace’s vocation would take them to Alaska. Through the Operating Engineers Union, he worked on the Alaska Pipeline, later working at Dutch Harbor, Alaska, remaining there until he retired in 1991, then coming to Elma.

As a young man Ace loved to rodeo. He also liked hunting and fishing and working in his shop involving the grandkids in the chores. He would work his horses at their ranch near Elma. The spring and fall would find him and Arv in Montana with a trip to Alaska in the summer.

Ace belonged to the Elma Eagles Aerie No. 1440 and the Operating Engineer Union, Local 302, Seattle.

Besides his wife, Arv, of the family home in Elma, Ace is survived by a son: John and wife Angel Duvall, Tacoma; a daughter: Sherrie Duvall, Roy, Wash .; three step-sons: Lynn and wife Glenda Peek, Satsop, Michael and wife Kristin Peek, Nikiski, Alaska and Mitchell and wife Terry Quimby, Elma; a brother: Mark Duvall, Malta, Mont .; four sisters: Ada and husband Robert Ragsdale, Bakersfield, Calif., Margaret Wood, Winnie French and Faye Helm, all of Malta, Mont. There are also 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial gathering was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, at the Elma Eagles Aerie.
