Second MAC Golf event held in Malta

Marian Hills Golf Course in Malta was host to the second annual Malta Athletic Club Golf Tournament last Saturday, July 7.

The team scramble event drew fifty-two golfers of thirteen four-person teams together in support for not only the Malta Athletic Club but to support CJ Bishop who is recovering from an accident he suffered in Mexico.

The event was won by Tony Kindle, Kory Kindle, Curt Depuydt, and Dave Boothe with a score of 51.24.

Second went to the team of Cory Shelhamer, Ann Sautter, Dave Skiff, and Ryan Tangedahl with a score of 53.44, 3rd was a tie between a team of Del Stiles, Kaydel Stiles, Sophie Stiles, and Jaren Stiles and Ty Lulloff, Sascha Lulloff, Teaguean Knudsen, and Lance Hasler with a score of 55.55.

The PCN caught up with Hasler and Knudsen, a pair of former Malta graduates.

"I just came back to play golf with some friends," said Hasler, a 2011 MHS Graduate.

Despite temperatures surpassing 100 degrees one day prior, and temps reaching just under 100 that day, Hasler, who is currently living in Lewistown, was a fan of the weather.

"It's going good," Hasler said. "The beer is cold and it's a beautiful day."

He also gave his thoughts on the course maintenance.

"The greens are in good shape," Hasler said. "They are pretty fast but all-in-all it's a good course."

As far as his game that day, Hasler had been doing well but things had taken a turn.

"It started off good and it's going down in a hurry," Hasler said.

Knudsen, a 2012 graduate of MHS, currently lives in Williston, N.D., but comes back to Malta to compete in local golf tournaments.

"We heard about the accident that CJ had and heard about the cause the Malta Athletic Club was doing to help support and fund-raise for him," Knudsen said. "I thought it was a great event, so we wanted to come out and support that."

Being involved in various activities including sports and band, Knudsen remembers the impact that the Malta Athletic Club has in the community, and he has capitalized on helping the cause.

"Growing up in Malta and going to school here, the Athletic Club did a lot to support athletics, not only your traditional athletics like football, but they also supported band and they did a lot to support the students in what they were doing," Knudsen said. "So I think it's good to come back and support them and allow them to support the students that are now graduating."
