Management of cows and calves during drought

Most all livestock producers have had weather challenges from feeding cows when it is 50 below this last winter to the challenges of no rain in May and only half of June providing some precipitation. Net result is we are short of hay supplies and pasture.

On Friday, July 27 at 3 p.m., Montana State University Beef Specialist Dr. Megan Van Emon will be at the Great Northern to present management option for low forage situations. This may include creep feeding calves, weaning calves early or a combination of both. These management approaches will help the calf meet is growing forage and nutrient needs and reduce demands on the cow.
