Local boys Lamb, Mace, join Olson and Gebhardt — Rock Solid Country — to play at Phillips County Fair

Rock Solid Country doesn’t play gigs very often, but when they do they are generally at the Phillips County Fair and the boys, including a few local legends, will both open for this year’s headlining act Roots & Boots, as well as playing the street dance after the Friday night concert.

“People can expect a lot of fun and a lot of dancing,” Malta’s Vince Mace said. “A few of us are wireless and we like to get off the stage and mingle in the crowd a little bit. Be prepared for a bunch of great live music and a great time.”

Rock Solid Country is comprised of Mace, Malta’s Justin Lamb, O.K. Olson hailing from Jordon, Mont., and Chase Gephardt from Brockton, Mont. Mace said the last time Rock Solid Country played a gig together was at the street dance at last year’s Phillips County Fair, but each member of the band plays in other bands so none of the boys are rusty. Mace plays bass guitar and handles vocals; Lamb plays rhythm guitar and handles vocals; Olson plays lead guitar and handles vocals, and Gephardt plays drums and, you guessed it, handles vocals.

“All four of us sing and that is a good thing when we play these five-hour shows,” Mace said.

“We have a good time and it is relaxing,” Lamb added. “It’s just like getting together to jam with your friends, but doing so in front of an audience. It’s a great chance to provide entertainment for everybody.”

Lamb said that there was a sizeable crowd for last year’s Phillips County Saturday night street dance and said that Rock Solid Country has played at the last several fairs, including opening for Trevor Panczak in 2014.

“We should be playing to a pretty good size crowd when we open for Roots & Boots because Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw, and Collin Raye are big names in Country music,” Lamb said.

Rots & Boots with Rock Solid Country as the opening act gets underway at the Phillips County Fair on Friday, August 3, at 6 p.m. Tickets for all grandstand events for this year’s fair can be bought at Malta banks or online at phillipscountyfair.com. Mace said that generally, Rock Solid Country plays for about five hours at the street dances and the audience can expect to hear lots of old Country songs with a few Rock N Roll standards peppered into the mix.

“Hopefully people get a small taste of our music when we open for Roots & Boots and then stick around for the street dance afterward,” Mace said. “We like to make the most out of every opportunity and we hope everyone comes out to see us play.”
