Roots & Boots rocks the 103rd

Country Music Legends Dazzle at P.C. Fair

The Grandstands and infield at the fairgrounds in Dodson were packed on Friday night at the 103rd Phillips County Fair as Country Music heavyweights Aaron Tippin, Sammy Kershaw and Colin Raye - known collectively as Roots & Boots - jammed for the better part of 90-minutes.

"Are we having fun tonight Montana?" Kershaw asked the 1,698 concert goers in attendance.

Audible shouts of "yeah," whistles, and then drinks and small American flags raised in the air were the answers to his query.

The 1,698 people at the concert was almost 700 more than last year when LoCash played the fair and was the biggest audience the Phillips County Fair's Friday night concert has seen since Clay Walker drew over 1,800 at the 100th Annual Phillips County Fair.

"Thank you so much for having us to your 2018 fair," Raye said.

Prior to Roots & Boots taking the stage, Rock Solid Country opened the night's music featuring Malta's Justin Lamb and Vince Mace and their bandmates, O.K. Olson and Chase Gephardt. Following the Roots & Boots show, and prior to the night's street dance at which the local legends played into the wee hours of the morning, the PCN caught up with Lamb and Mace.

"I thought it went good and we had fun," Lamb said as he crawled beneath the trailer/stage, trying to set up equipment for the street dance. "Actually, we had lots of fun."

"We did great and it was an awesome show," Mace said as he looked for his bass guitar, "and we are going to do just as awesome tonight as well."

During the Roots & Boots set, Kershaw, Tippin, and Raye took the stage together several times to perform and also came to the stage solo during the night to each perform several of their Top 10 Country Music hits.

"We are so happy to be here and we are having so much fun," Tippin said. "It is so great to see so many people out here singing our songs and keeping them alive."
