Five residents of Malta have presented their signature petitions to vie for the two school board member positions that will be voted on for the Malta School District. The election date is Tuesday, May 7th and is conducted through the Phillips County Clerk and Recorders Office. This is a MAIL IN BALLOT. The March 26th meeting of the Malta City Council opened after the communications from Mayor John Demarais. Demarais thanked the Council for sending him to the Montana Rural Water Conference. Ellis Carnahan, an eighth grade student at Malta Middle School, was selected as the author of the 2023-2024 Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. He was recognized at an assembly at the Malta High School auditorium, along with third place winner, Jace Tollefson. The annual AAU middle school and high school national duals were held in Des Moines, Iowa April 6th and 7th and Malta had four wrestlers who qualified to compete in this national dual tournament – Kohner “Chaka” Schipman, Straud Sims, Trooper Stiles, and Lane Spencer. The Malta M-ettes welcome back six state performers from last years team and a total of 22 athletes. The team consists of two seniors, three juniors, nine sophomore, and eight freshmen. Gloria L. Lafond Taylor, age 104, earned her angel wings on April 1, 2024. Gloria was born on October 2, 1919, to John and Mary (Clautier) Lafond, Sr., in Malta, Mont. Gloria grew up in a large family of nine. On June 28, 1937, Gloria married Hugh R. Taylor. They resided in Malta where they raised their children, Richard, George, Albert, Norma and Roy.
