    They came to honor and show respect and patriotism and pride filled the room. A day of remembrance, Memorial Day is more than an extra day off from work or picnics or sitting on the shore waiting for a bite on the fishing hook.     The flags whipped gently in the wind, as a quiet and reverent crowd gathered at the Veterans Memorial Park on Front Street. It was Monday, May 30th, Memorial Day 2022.   • Malta VFW Patriots Pen winners

    Local winning entries who participated in the VFW Patriots Pen were recently recognized. In an assembly before their peers the youth were awarded a certificate, a medallion and cash awards. Selected as honorable mention was Sonny Gray, third place was Layla Messerly, with second place going to Neva Anderson. The first place entry was penned by Lola Snell.
