  • Don't blame the APR

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors columnist|Nov 14, 2018

In my travels around the county this fall it’s been hard to miss the new signs: “Save the cowboy, stop American Prairie Reserve.” Apparently there’s some concern that the non-profit group hoping to create an American Serengeti in north central Montana is threatening a revered, low-paying lifestyle. The new signs were put up by United Property Owners of Montana, a group that says it supports private property rights, yet disapproves of what APR does on its own property. It’s an issue of bison vs....

  • Addressing letter about APR

    Nov 14, 2018

Dear Editor, In last week’s PCN Troy Blunt explained recent actions taken against his family by the American Prairie Reserve. According to Troy’s letter APR, in order to protect their private property rights, has denied access to approximately ¼ mile of their property used only to trail cattle. APR, as a private property owner, has every right to deny access (although for such an insignificant use this is not neighborly) but I find their rational distasteful. According to Troy’s letter the denial came because the Blunt family chose to exercise...

  • What happened to appreciation?

    Nov 14, 2018

Dear Editor, Whatever happened to the feeling of sincere appreciation that was deeply felt within us? It seems that for some time people, the feelings of appreciation is short-lived and gone in seconds. I will give you an example of the appreciation feeling and how long it lasts. It’s like a very hot skillet on the stove and you flick some water on it and you can see how fast the water is vaporized. Well, that’s how long some people’s feelings of appreciation last. Harry A. Carpenter, Jr. Malta...

  • Whitewater News and Opinion for November 14, 2018

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Nov 14, 2018

The election is finally over! Our Whitewater town has been booming! We had cowboys, hunters, and a basketball tournament with several teams. First, local ranchers are shipping cattle. Recently, I heard bawling from Stockyards. Maybe these are Howard Bergs’. Huge trucks ship the cattle now. When I grew, most shipping was done on The Little Train which we called the “Galloping Goose.” The train ran from Glasgow to Saco, Whitewater, Turner and Hogeland, Mont. I wish we still had a train here. As I...
