  • Senator Lang Provides Legislative Updates For SD 17

    Mike Lang, MT Senator|Jan 25, 2023

To Senate District 17 1-20-2023 We just completed our 15th day in this 68th Montana Legislature. The halls are full of lobbyists and Montana citizens. Committees are processing bills in both the House and the Senate. The largest group of bills has come from the Montana agencies. These "red tape" bills will reduce the governmental process. The administration is very customer-orientated, but the government still is hard to communicate with and get answers as fast and definitive as citizens...

  • Tester, Barrasso, Hickenlooper, Daines Push Biden Administration to Better Address Rural Nursing Home Staffing Shortages

Sara, The Office of US Senator Jon Tester|Jan 25, 2023

In their continued effort to ensure seniors across rural America have access to quality long-term care, U.S. Senators Jon Tester (D-MT), John Barrasso (R-WY), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Steve Daines (R-MT) sent a letter to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to express concerns about CMS’ intent to issue staffing mandates for nursing homes. In the letter, the Senators discourage CMS from taking a “one-size-fits-all” approach and instead urge them to address the significant workforce short...

  • Senater Bill 72 Could Change Local Water Management

    Jan 25, 2023

Dear Editor, Legislation under consideration in Helena on water use and water rights could negatively impact the economic future of Montana family farms and ranches. Senate Bill 72 makes sweeping changes to Montana water law, directly targeting our local district courts’ supervisory authority over local water commissioners. It replaces our current functioning system and centralizes control in a new, permanent Water Court with expanded powers over water rights enforcement. Controversial provisions in this bill create a new opportunity for w...

  • American Prairie: Giving Back to the Community

    Jan 25, 2023

Dear Editor, “What does American Prairie do for the community?” As the organization’s Senior Outreach Manager, and a Lewistown resident, I’m grateful to reflect on that question at the start of a new year. First, American Prairie is part of this community. The same number of employees live in Fergus and Phillips Counties as in Bozeman – and this number will grow. Seven of us reside in Fergus County along with our partners and spouses, kids, parents, and even grandparents. We own and rent homes, send our kids to school, shop local, and volun...

  • Winter Refuge in a Another Town

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jan 25, 2023

I finally gave in. Admitted I was tired of the snow. The endless winter. The unrelenting cold. But while many of our neighbors seek refuge in the Arizona desert once winter tightens its grip on Phillips County, Barb and I felt no need to leave Montana. Balmy Livingston is good enough for us. We bought a small house there on a quiet street, and while Malta remains home for now, we’ll probably eventually end up in Livingston. We have family there including a dozen grandchildren and another on t...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, January 25, 2023

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Jan 25, 2023

Day after day of thick fog made some beautiful frost on the trees, but it also made the electric lines heavy and low. The power went out many times in Loring, but just a flash. One day it stayed off for about three hours. We were the lucky people! Lu Besel and I went to Malta on Thursday and did a few things at the museum. It's surprising how long it takes to get the computer up when it hasn't been used in a few months. Cindy and I went in on Tuesday and had lunch with the senior meals at the...

Thanks to the Dodson Ladies who served lunch at the Sacred Heart Hall. It was nice to see some of...
