    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Nov 20, 2019

The Malta City Council unanimously voted to increase the sewer rates in Malta by $4.50 per month, the first sewer rate increase since 2006 when it was raised $6, to help pay back a loan secured to pay for repairs at the Legg Lift Station. A public meeting held before last Tuesday's vote on the rate increase was attended by a few members of the public, but very few questions were asked and the resolution for the increase was passed. Malta Mayor John Demarais said the Legg Lift Station is 40 years old and was recently flooded. He said to pay for...

  • Barking must mean something

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Nov 20, 2019

I fear I may be missing the message. For his entire life, my dog Ace has played second and third fiddle to other dogs. Going on nine now, he’s entering the twilight of his undistinguished career. While his nose is money, his aversion to retrieving meant he always had to hunt with another dog, preferably one that would retrieve. A close-worker, he Hoovers the cover immediately in front of me, fearing, perhaps, that if he didn’t, I might step on a bird. If a bird happens to cross our path, he...

  • Probably my allergies

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Nov 20, 2019

I have been getting pretty sentimental lately. I’m not sure if it’s because I am a father or because I have been missing my family. Maybe it’s just my allergies. I had the chance to catch my first college basketball game the other day as I traveled to Havre to witness the Nicholson sisters, Hailey and Jada, play in a game at the Armory Gymnasium at Montana State University-Northern in Havre. I was blessed enough as most in the community to see those girls standout in their M-ette years, enough s...

  • Phillips County Museum News for Wednesday, November 20, 2019

    Lori Taylor, PC Museum Curator|Nov 20, 2019

Museum Notes November 20th History tells us that our Thanksgiving celebrations started at the same time as the birth of our nation. Since that time Americans have celebrated Thanksgiving amid wars, famine, moon launches, demonstrations, football games, national elections etc. Mindful of the events and years that have passed I want to pass on parts of a Thanksgiving proclamation that Theodore Roosevelt made: “If this nation is properly to fulfill its great mission and to accomplish all that we so ardently hope and desire, the things of the b...
