A brand new bus barn for the Phillips Transit Authority (PTA) is 99 percent done and waiting for its final inspection from the state this coming Thursday. "We will be moving things over there slowly," said Betty Hasler of the PTA. "I have a few time-sensitive things that I want to make sure I get done while all of my stuff is still here so I know that everything is working right." They broke ground on land donated by the...

Grace O. Albia and Jannet Benitez Zeta have both been charged with Deceptive Election Practices in Phillips County Justice Court. The charges allege that both falsified their voter registration form on October 12, 2021, when they declared on the form that they were United States citizens. After the Dodson, Montana town election in November 2021, several residents of Dodson notified the Phillips County Clerk and Recorder that Zeta and Albia had voted in the election but were...

  • Grasshopper forecast, a slight improvement

    Marko Manoukian, P. C. Extension Agent|Feb 9, 2022

Grasshopper outlook 2022 Unfortunately for most of Montana, the grasshopper outlook is only slightly better than 2021. The Rangeland Grasshopper outlook is developed through surveys of adult grasshoppers in the fall of 2021. The United States Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) conducts the survey and compiles the outlook map. In the state of Montana, 45.8 million acres are forecasted to experience 8-15 grasshoppers per square yard (orange) and 8.6...

  • President's Day, More than just a Holiday

Sharon Kindle, Patriotic Chair, VFW Post 4067|Feb 9, 2022

The first president, George Washington, and the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, had several similarities: they both wanted to free the slaves; their fathers passed on while the future presidents were quite young; their education was limited to three years or less; both fought wars for their country. Washington was 11 when his father passed away and that was the end of his schooling as the father was his teacher. The family could ill afford young George to attend school in England. As Washington aged, he began to abhor the institution of slaver...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, February 9, 2022

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Feb 9, 2022

Sunday was a day right out of spring, the wind blowing of course, but warm and water all over. Too early for the frost to be out so it was just standing. The school did get going again, but the town is still pretty quiet. Little excitement coming up, but so is spring. Polly Solberg is still visiting in Billings. Terri Cole rode to Glasgow with Steve and Tara so they could pick up their new pickup. They enjoyed supper out while there, nice to get away for a while. Continued get well wishes to...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, February 9, 2022

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Feb 9, 2022

The temperature has been so warm I wouldn’t be surprised to see a gopher scampering around. This week I realized how nice my Jeep looks with a new bumper! So many of the talented people that we need, really go over and above for their customers! Doesn’t it always happen on a Sunday? The water for the whole farm was down and those cows would not be easy to handle if they didn’t get water to drink! So a quick call to the well driller and he was there checking things out! It was a fairly...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, February 9, 2022

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Feb 9, 2022

Happy Valentine’s Day! It is February 2022. Happy Birthday to all. Also, to those celebrating an anniversary. There were ballgames at the Whitewater School. Supper was served and there was an auction. The National Anthem was song by Samantha Wisher, which was beautiful. The band also played the school songs. Very nice! From the weather bureau, more snow melted, but it was cold and icy. Be careful walking or driving. Also beware of the C-19 virus. I talked to Teresa (my daughter) in Canada....

  • Barb wasn't going to ride tandem

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Feb 9, 2022

While visiting with an old friend recently I happened to mention my snowmobiles. He took a step back, a shocked look on his face. “You have a snowmobile?” he asked. “Two, in fact,” I told him. His surprise was understandable. When I lived in the mountains I was a cross-country skier, not a ‘biler, although the choice was more economical at the time than aesthetic. All I could afford were skis. And I was once even censured by the paper I worked for after writing a column criticizing an...

  • I'm not sure what that was, but it wasn't football

    Mark Foss, Thoughts on Things|Feb 9, 2022

After watching what was called the Pro Bowl this past weekend, I will never watch it again. I can understand that none of the very best players in the NFL want to get hurt playing in an exhibition game that means nothing to anyone’s record. An injury in a meaningless game could cost them money, contracts, their career. But let’s be honest, they were in full pads and were basically doing a walk-through. I’ve seen more contact in a flag football game than there was in the “Pro Bowl”. I would much rather they lose the pads and actually...
