  • Merchants talk 2020 Holiday season; Season wasn't hampered due to COVID

    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Feb 10, 2021

That was concerning! But things went well for Malta Merchants in December. A couple of weeks ago, the PCN was alerted that the 2020 Christmas Holiday season featured less Malta Chamber Christmas Scrip than in previous years. Despite the seemingly everlasting threat of COVID-19, it may be logical that numbers were down. The scrip total in the 2019 Holiday Season was $239,368. The total for the 2020 Christmas was $189,490, or a difference of $49,878. Despite the deficit of almost $50,000 in the...

  • Loring News for February 10, 2021

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Feb 10, 2021

Just for your information, winter arrived with a mean force! Not much snow here in Loring, but the negative highs are enough! Looking on the bright side, winter shouldn't last longer than a couple of months instead of six. I'm thinking that a little more snow might be welcome, or maybe spring rains! You know how I'm always on the lookout for birds, especially snowy owls. A friend from California sent a newspaper article that reported a snowy owl being sighted in Central Park, New York City! As...

  • Dodson News for February 10, 2021

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Feb 10, 2021

If we thought it was cold before, we were in for a big surprise. It is cold----all over Montana and it's February!!! Our thoughts should be looking forward to sunshine and warmer temps, at least in the daytime. Ranchers are looking at newborn's and this is no weather for them. Hopefully after this week we will see brighter days. This 20 to 40 degrees below is not good for old bones! And still below zero in the daytime ! Remember, this next Sunday is Valentine's Day---remember your sweetie! The...

Sympathy and prayers to Lou Bruckner, and friends and family, on the loss of her husband Glenn. Also, on the loss of her son, Dale, who passed about a week before his dad. Very sad. “Get well,” to all who are sick. We are sorry to hear that there was a fire in the Olsen’s barn! I don’t know the details, but no one was hurt and that what matters. Fires are dangerous. Jeanie Green is beginning lambing. They (Lambies) are so cute, they are also showing up. I used to feed bum lambs and calves...

  • Disappointed in "a woeful attack against science and reason"

    Feb 10, 2021

I was disappointed to see Casey Knudsen side with Democrat colleagues to vote against HB113, which would have protected Montana children from genital mutilation and hormone-blocking drugs for the sake of treating “gender dysphoria.” Studies indicate that upwards of ten percent of those who undergo the procedure known as “gender-affirmation surgeries” regret their decision, and the number is higher for children. Meanwhile, the disfiguring procedures double the risk of stroke in both males and females, double the risk of heart-attacks in men (an...

  • Phil, why did you let me down?

    Parker Heinlein, PCN Correspondent|Feb 10, 2021

I don’t put much stock in old wives tales and the like, choosing science over myth when given a choice. Unless, of course, it suits me. And an early spring always suits me. That’s why, on the second day of February every year for as long as I can remember, I anxiously watch the morning news to see if Punxsatawney Phil has seen his shadow. If so, the story goes, we’re in for six more weeks of winter. You’d think by now I’d know better. The Pennsylvania groundhog is only right about half of t...

  • Your Boots on the Hill: Ranchers show strong support for Veterinary Diagnostic Lab funding

    Feb 10, 2021

The tide is about to turn in relation to bill volume as we enter the second month of the 2021 Montana Legislative Session. In the first week in February, only 550 of the 3,337 bill draft titles were introduced. It’s likely that many of the bill draft requests will never actually see the light of day, but that still leaves the large majority yet to be possibly introduced. By next week, we’ll have a clearer picture of what may or may not actually come to fruition from this session. We continue to focus on escorting House Bill 14, the Lon...
