In a paper released on Thursday, February 10, Dr. Cary Woodruff, Director of Paleontology at the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum in Malta, Montana, along with other colleagues, reported that they have found the first bird-like respiratory infection in a dinosaur. It was another top-notch production put on by the Malta High School Band and Choir to an almost capacity audience on Tuesday, February 8, at the Malta High School auditorium. The concert choir, led by Mrs. Nancy Murdock and accompanied by Jenny Oxarart kicked off the night with a couple of the songs that were performed at the District Honor Band and Choir concert in late January. Twenty-seven of the county's top spellers congregated at the school in Whitewater on Wednesday, February 9, for the Phillips County Spelling Bee. The winner was Finn Witmer, a seventh-grader from Malta Middle School. The runner-up for the competition was Jake Brown, an eighth-grader from Saco. At the last City Council meeting, February 8, the council got a visit from Barry Damchen. He reported that the landfill is looking good. There is a problem with litter from the landfill. He suggested that the city look into shutting the landfill down on days that are supposed to be really windy. Much of the litter that gets airborne happens when the trucks are dumped while it is windy. Mr. Damchen introduced Mary Louise to the council. She is a sub-contractor that is working with Mr. Damchen now that specializes in groundwater monitoring. The...
The Malta Middle School Festival will take place in Malta High School/Middle School - Feb. 22. This will be an all day event with students from Malta Middle School performing solos/ensembles in addition to the 6th Grade Band and 7/8 Grade Band. Students from Lustre Christian School, Nashua, Opheim, Hinsdale, Saco and Whitewater will also be attending. Everyone is invited to listen to music made by these young musicians. The weather has stayed pretty much the same, some warmer days, but lots of wind, and on Friday a short little snowstorm. It has cleared it down so we are seeing a lot more bare ground again. It doesn’t seem so long ago that folks were all worked up about the reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone National Park. There were worries that the predators would devastate the elk herds, then move out of the park and begin preying on cattle. Outfitters and ranchers were up in arms. Dorothy Barton, 92, peacefully passed away on February 6 with her daughters and sons-in-laws by her side. Her kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and faith and trust in Jesus were as evident in her passing as they were in her daily life.
