  • Malta FFA Students Celebrate National FFA Week

    Mark Foss, PCN Staff|Mar 2, 2022

The Malta FFA students had a busy week from February 22-25 celebrating National FFA Week. With no school on Monday, they started the week off with some trivia in the school during study halls. "That kind of started us off for the week," said Lela Domire. "It was a fun way to start off." On Wednesday, the FFA officers held a meet and greet with the seventh graders. "We introduced ourselves and gave a little presentation on all of the things that we do in FFA and what kinds of things they can...

  • Malta City Council Meets, Gives Updates on Parks and Rec. Activities

    Mark Foss, PCN Staff|Mar 2, 2022

It was a fairly quiet meeting for the city council at their last meeting on Tuesday, February 22. Director of Public Works Jim Truelove updated the council on dirt work being done at the new Trafton Lift Station location. Truelove told the council, “It’s called a preload. This means you have to dig so much out, then bring in a bunch of pit run. In this case, about 1,200 yards worth. On top of that went five feet of additional fill. The first settlement reading will be the first week of March.” Truelove then asked the council for input on what...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, March 2, 2022

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Mar 2, 2022

It is surprising how a couple days of sunshine and the horrible wind can change the landscape so fast. The ground that was white is now brown again and there is not even hardly any water standing around any more. My son at Laurel said they had 7 inches again so were having to shovel everything off. Sunday we were hit by another horrendous wind--it even roared a little. Most of the basketball is over so cross country kids will soon be seen out running. At least it is beginning to warm up for...

Meteorological spring is on March 1. I know the gophers are out and a few birds are moving around. I’ve seen quite a few eagles and hawks. Astronomic spring is March 22, also known as the spring equinox. Rodney Stordahl drove Dixie Stordahl to Billings for a few days. We attended a baby shower for Brentton and Abby on Sunday at Dave and Brandie’s home. And on Tuesday I had a couple of doctor appointments. We came home on Wednesday. On Thursday I got a message from Brentton that I was a great gra...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, March 2, 2022

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Mar 2, 2022

9 Sympathy to the family of Helen DePuydt. She was a nice lady and a good friend. She will be missed. Get well wishes to Dallas Green who returned home from Rochester. Also get well wishes to all who are sick. When I get a glass of my own “cool, clear, well water”, I am thankful. Years ago when I moved back to my hometown, (Whitewater), I had a well dug. It still puts out the “cool, clear water”! Recently, I saw Ray McMullen who helped me do the work to run the water in my house. Chad Wi...

  • Dimas to be featured on Discovery Channel

    Mar 2, 2022

Dear Editor, Last spring I, Lowell Young, was watching Operation Outdoor Freedom on the Discovery Channel. It is a great show that honors our Veterans. At the end of the show it said that if you wanted to nominate someone, to send an email with their name and story. I nominated Darin Dimas from Poplar, MT. Darin served a tour in Afghanistan with the Montana National Guard. He also has two sons that were Army Rangers. Three weeks after I submitted his name I received a call from the producers of Operation Outdoor Freedom and they wanted to tell...

  • No doubt about who is in charge

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Mar 2, 2022

I can tell from my dogs’ behavior that hunting season ended some time ago. From September through December they behave as if well trained. They sleep a lot, rarely get into mischief, and seldom need correcting. Then the season ends and while I always vow to walk them regularly, I don’t. Instead, they, like me, quickly return to their slothful, ill-disciplined ways. I have a friend who has pointing dogs that accompany him on trail runs year round. Both he and his dogs stay in great shape and out...
