    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Mar 8, 2023

Al Kroll, local Veteran, neighbor, friend, uncle and grandpa, celebrated Sunday in style. He turned 92 with family, friends and a warm and friendly group at the monthly jam session at the VFW. With restriction for open flames, and being a Sunday, and not wanting to interfere with the volunteer fire department's day off, no candles were lit. However, the smile of Al's face put a glow in the room. Al and his wife, Ruby, have two children, two grandchildren and two great-grandkids. His wife, and...

  • We'll See How Long it Lasts

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Mar 8, 2023

Barb and I are enjoying a closeness while traveling we hadn’t experienced before. We’ll see how long it lasts. For the past 30 years we’ve fled Montana in March seeking warmer climes. It used to be Florida, a five-day road trip with a boat in tow. Now it’s the desert Southwest, a much shorter journey, with nothing in tow. We’d always driven a pickup or SUV on our escape from the frigid North. This year, however, we’re traveling in Barb’s Mini Cooper convertible, a cool car, but certainly mor...

Slumber Party in the Blizzard The north wind howled and blew icy snow into high drifts along the banks of the tiny Whitewater Creek and into the schoolyard where classmates, teachers, and I were trapped overnight in February of 1950, because of the worst blizzard in Montana history. A blizzard which created a night to live forever in our memories. The day began like others, cold, with softly falling s...
