Two classes of seventh-grade students in Mrs. Liens' Current Events class took a field trip to the PCN office on both Wednesday and Thursday, March 2 and 3, to learn about how the newspaper is done. The Health-Care Foundation of Phillips County will be holding their annual Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament Calcutta on Tuesday, March 15, at 6:30 p.m. sharp at the Lucky Bullet. The Health-Care Foundation is a non-profit organization that started in 1992. All week we have had harsh winter again. We got several inches of snow Wednesday night and Friday and the cold followed and stayed. It was sort of bad weather for the tournaments but they carried on well. Terri Cole and Bonnie Lankford went to Helena in the storm on Friday. Velyma Broadhead has been away for a few days this week. Wednesday evening 3/2 the snow started coming down while we were at Ash Wednesday services and dropped about 4 inches overnight! Then on Thursday, it picked up again and maybe a couple more inches! So needed! On Wednesday I noticed that the dog was drinking from a puddle of water not frozen. When I went out to investigate, I had a leak in the pump house basement which made the basement a swimming pool! Just so thankful for Pete Lumsden, Jay Blunt, and Rodney Stordahl for coming to my rescue....

I’m befuddled by the legions of folks complaining about their loss of freedoms. Maybe I’m just naive, but I don’t seem to have lost any. The world news is all talk about Russia invading Ukraine. I truly believe that Putin has lost his mind. I saw a cartoon drawing of Putin and Biden sitting across from each other a few weeks ago. Lois Marie (Long) Bruckner age 83 passed away March 3, 2022 at the Hi-Line Retirement Center of natural causes. Lois was born May 11, 1938 in Malta, MT to Philip and Belva (McKown) Long. Lois was the oldest of three girls. They were raised in the Malta area along with close cousins and became known as the Long girls. They attended schools in Saco and Malta and Lois graduated from Malta High School in 1956. Jerome John Depute (Jerry to the Montana people) was born on November 3, 1935, to William J and Eva (Hennessy) Depute in Berthold, North Dakota, eight in a family of 12 children. He attended rural schools and Berthold High School. He was trained as a mechanic at School of Science at Wahpeton, North Dakota. In 1956, Jerry enlisted in the Air Force and served until December 1959. He was stationed in the United States, and in French Morocco, North Africa.
