It’s time to celebrate Spring and the opening of the Phillips County Museum!! A milestone happened during the first week in April 1917. On April 6, 1917, the United States entered World War I. In July 1917 twelve men signed their intent to enlist in the Second Montana Volunteer Infantry and they signed on the circus grounds in Malta. Seriously – it did happen during a circus! Army personnel seeing an opportunity to enlist men set up a tent and some old muskets and established “recruiting headquarters” on the circus grounds with the Stars a...

  • Our Governor is a redneck

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 7, 2021

Our new governor seems intent on living out a country song. Hardy’s recent hit “Rednecker” comes to mind whenever Greg Gianforte makes the news. “My town’s smaller than your town/And I got a bigger buck and bass on my wall” A New Jersey transplant, Gianforte long ago gave up the silk shirts and gold chains of the Jersey shore for boots, jeans, and big belt buckles. Some might call him a poser, but the software developer seems to be doing everything he can lately to prove he’s just a regular guy...

  • No Foreign Visitors Allowed

    Mark Foss, PCN Staff|Apr 7, 2021

As I sit here writing this, I’m thinking how nice it was yesterday, Sunday, March 28. It was around 70 degrees out and an absolutely beautiful early spring day. I missed them last year. It’s going to be weird not having Michael Phelps in the pool swimming faster than a dolphin, or watching Usain Bolt make everyone else look like they are running in place on th...
