  • High Winds Cause a Bit of Damage Around Phillips County

    Mark Foss, PCN Staff|Apr 13, 2022

Unless you were in your underground bunker waiting to see which world leader completely loses their mind first, you may have noticed a little bit of wind last Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5 and 6. Consistent high winds, with even larger gusts rattled the area for almost 48 hours, causing minor to significant damage in Malta and around the county. Shane Anderson, local agent for Farmers Union said, "I've had 18 wind claims in town so far, and expect a few more to come in, in the next couple of...

Palm Sunday was a pretty nice day---some wind of course, but that is so every day. A special wish for a beautiful day for Easter this coming Sunday---Hope everyone has a nice one. Terri Cole has been going to Glasgow for therapy on her back. Thoughts are with her for a quick recovery. Teri Leys of Choteau and Asher came and took Mom Dora to Billings for a Pacemaker check and setting. They stayed overnight with Steve and Judy Henry at Laurel. When I went to AZ this time I missed the big wind event that was in northern Phillips County! I have not discovered any problems except a few branches down on the back yard. The electricity was off or partial power for parts of two days! I heard a meadowlark singing on Sunday morning! I’ve been waiting but I’ve been gone for a week. Paula Morrison brought snacks for after church on Sunday! She is doing well! I’m glad to have them home! Spring is a time for track meets and proms and both were...

  • CI-121 petition would hurt small businesses

    Apr 13, 2022

Hello to all, Constitutional Initiative 121 or CI-121 is a proposed initiative petition currently circulating to gather enough signatures to qualify for the ballot this November. If asked, decline to sign the petition for CI-121! We must keep this misleading ballot initiative off the ballot. CI -121 is not in the best interests of Montanan communities, businesses, or schools. We need to protect new homeowners and keep families in their homes. Small businesses are already struggling. We need to protect them from a tax shift that could...

  • The secret is already out

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Apr 13, 2022

I recently read an article questioning the ethics of journalists who write about the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Fearing the park is being loved to death, the author wrote that stories extolling the wonders of Yellowstone might do more harm than good, implying that keeping secret the “Top ten day hikes in the Park,” or the “Most picturesque picnic areas,” could somehow ease crowding and maybe save the place. I disagree. The secret is already out. Nobody stumbles upon Yellows...

    Lori Taylor, P. C. Museum Curator|Apr 13, 2022

Is anyone playing cards this week at the Senior Citizens? One of the first organized social clubs in Malta was the “Pioneer Whist Club”.They played once a month during the fall and winter months. The club was officially organized in 1911. The club was a bit elitist concerning its membership. It’s one hard fast rule was that to be a member one had to have lived in Malta for 15 years. At that time, it meant members had come to Malta not later than 1896. Food was an integral part of the club. A full course meal was served before an evening of tr...
