    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 22, 2015

On April 26, Dixie Moore will enter her 41st year as a nurse at the Phillips County Hospital in Malta. Moore (maiden name Dunbar) graduated from Whitewater High School in 1970 and decided to become a nurse, an occupation she always coveted. "That's what I wanted to be all the way back when I was a little girl," said Moore. "I always wanted to be a nurse." Moore, who is currently a home health nurse, started at the Phillips County Hospital as an LPN in 1975 working on the floor of the old...

  • Music, dancing and the occasional fight

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Apr 22, 2015

I went to a couple of dances last week, watched the participants bust some impressive moves, and even saw a fight. It was like being 16 again. Except I wasn’t dancing or even invited to these particular soirees that played out in the early morning light. It’s springtime on the prairie and the grouse are on the leks, communal areas where the males engage in courtship displays. I’d been to the sharptail lek before. For most of the year it’s simply a nondescript bare hilltop next to a...

  • Is it time to sell Hi-Line Retirement Center and PC Hospital?

    Apr 22, 2015

Dear Editor, MAYBE IT'S TIME.... to consider affiliating or selling the Hi-Line Retirement Center and the Phillips County Hospital & Family Health Clinic to a professional system such as Benefis Health System. Great Falls Tribune reported on Thursday, April 16 the sale of Teton Medical Center. Choteau to Benefis. TMC's Board and CEO looked "at a combination of uncompensated care, low census in the care facility and the changing landscape of American Health Care was something TMC could not weather." Certainly sounds familiar. Some of the...

  • South Phillips County Grazing District wants your opinion heard

    Apr 22, 2015

Dear Editor, The Bureau of Land Management is considering making a change of management on the Flat Creek Allotment in South Phillips County. This change would be from seasonal use to year round use and also the removal of interior fences. The South Phillips County State Co-operative Grazing District feels this is giving preferential treatment to just one of the allotments in South Phillips as well as having no regard for the scientific data that supports rotational grazing. The District would appreciate your comments on the Issue. Please make...

  • Ann Coulter is a vile sow

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 22, 2015

Sorry for the ambiguous headline. I know that statement leaves you wondering on where I stand on this person. I’ve always suspected that Ann Coulter was of the swine species, but she went ahead and confirmed it as fact this past week…she is the slimiest of slimes. I try to stay away from religion and politics in my weekly blathering and, to be honest, this column isn’t so much about my political beliefs but rather my thoughts on blowhards trying to sell books. Ms. Coulter falls under this heading as last week she was asked if it bothers...

  • Dodson News for April 22, 2015

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Apr 22, 2015

Polly Solberg is spending several days in Ismay with son Nathan’s family, visiting and helping out with grandson, Devon, while his parents are away. Terri Cole brought Wink home from the hospital on Friday after several days in with pneumonia and pulmonary problems. A pessimist sees a rise in gas prices as having less money to spend elsewhere. An optimist sees it as taking less time to put in $3 worth. Isn’t it wonderful that we actually have a day now and then when the wind doesn’t blow?...

  • Yesterday's Phillips County News Memories for week of April 22, 2015

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 22, 2015

100 years ago April 22, 1915 Headline: Some game The business men, clerks and would-be ball tossers of 5th Avenue had the nerve and gall to issue a challenge to the professional men and ball players of 6th Avenue to meet them on the diamond Sunday, May 2nd in the great American game to go to make the support of the ball team here this summer. It is enough to make the angels weep to think that a bunch from the Avenue would entertain the idea for a second that they could get away with anything....

  • Coloring helps to de-stress…go figure!

    Kathy Bagley, PCN Correspondent|Apr 22, 2015

Lately, I’ve been seeing a number of posts on Facebook and Pinterest where people are proclaiming their love of coloring and how it helps them to de-stress from the day. Their comments and photos remind me of the simpler time of childhood where our parents threw coloring books and crayons at us to occupy our time so they could get a few things done. You can get coloring pages on just about any subject, including free coloring pages on the internet, which, by the time you print them out, aren’t really free because you had to pay for the ink....

  • Double Or Nothing Urlacher Encounter

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Apr 22, 2015

It's not everyday you get to meet your childhood hero. Typically when anyone asks me why I am a fan of the Chicago Bears, I would typically answer that I am a Chicagoan. When former Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher asked me the same question, the answer was a little different. I told him that he was the reason I was a Bears fan and then complimented him on his playing. It was an honest answer. Growing up in the 90's, it was all about the Michael Jordan led Bulls, who brought Chicag... Full story
