  • Keep on Truckin'

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Apr 27, 2016

Remember the smell of the first car you owned as a kid? How the steering wheel felt in your hand or how good the air blowing through your hair felt as you drove to your best gal's house on Friday night, music blaring as the rubber met the road? For most people, getting that first car back years later is, at best, nothing but a dream. Thanks to Carl Kaasa's son Dale, Carl can dream while he drives his old 1946 Chevy Pickup up and down the strip this summer, the first rig he ever owned as a young...

Since 1998, The Harlem Ambassadors have played, and won, over 3,000 games, but for this traveling basketball team, it is not whether they win or lose, but rather how much fun they have during the game. On Monday, May 2, The Malta Chamber of Commerce will bring the Harlem Ambassadors to Malta for a game of local basketball players – the Hi-Line Has Beens -- which feature a roster chalk full of names of current business, community and educational leaders in Phillips County. The team claims they ha...

  • Carnegie Library to become B&B in Malta

    Sarah Osmundson, Reporter|Apr 27, 2016

Kim Hudson and Rachel Liff are the new owners of the historic Carnegie Library building. Their plans for the future are to have a Bed and Breakfast. Hudson is originally from southwest Montana and Liff from Vermont but has lived the past 25 years as a Montanan. They both currently are from Norris, Mt by Bozeman and were introduced to Malta by their friends Parker and Barb Heinlein. About a year ago the two were driving around Malta and saw the Carnegie Library building, stopped in the street and...

  • Once a gator, always a gator

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Apr 27, 2016

On the television news this morning, I watched a woman jump into a tiger enclosure in a zoo to retrieve her hat. Yesterday on Facebook, I saw a video of a woman petting a bison in Yellowstone Park. Both escaped their close encounters unscathed and apparently unfazed. I suspect anthropomorphism -- the attribution of human motivation or behavior to animals -- in both cases. It’s common among pet owners who dress their Labradoodles in Denver Bronco jerseys, and actually believe the dogs give a h...

  • Hold on to your hats, here I come

    Brandon Nicholson, Columnist|Apr 27, 2016

Well, the time is finally here! I have begun packing my things into boxes again, something that seems to happen often. I have been writing a column for Phillips County News for the better part of a year now. The experience I have been most excited for is on the doorstep. I start my summer internship next Wednesday. I cannot wait for this opportunity to learn a new skill, one I never would have imagined three years ago. Thanks again Mark and the rest of the staff for all you’ve done, you guys are awesome! I’m looking forward to spending the sum...

  • Lawn mowing... a game of inches

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Apr 27, 2016

I’m starting to see why people love sit down mowers. The older I get, the harder it is getting to stay motivated to walk behind my mower. It typically takes me about an hour to mow my lawn. I also found out that it took me nearly as long to mow my yard with my neighbor’s sit down mower. Though the times weren’t very different, sitting on that riding mower made me feel like I was mowing in a luxury vehicle. Ever since my neighbor loaned me that mower, my relationship with my walking mower hasn...

    Lori Taylor, PC Museum Curator|Apr 27, 2016

What do we think when we see The Beatles, The Twist, LSD, zip codes, the Andy Griffith Show, and John F. Kennedy. Well the 1960’s of course. National history and Phillips County history combine as the PC Museum highlights the 1960s decade in a new exhibit. As Malta gears up for the 1960’s Decade Reunion stop over and see if you recognize any of the faces that will be visiting Malta in June or those of long time Malta residents. Thank-you to Marge Clausen for your help with the exhibit. Donated items are rolling through the door and provide opp...
