Voters responded in good numbers for the Tuesday, May 2, 2023, school board election. The election was conducted by mail-in ballot voting. Approximately 60% of voters mailed in their choice for the election. Angel DeVries amassed 780 votes and Katey Marquis received 685 votes to win the election according to the unofficial count provided by the Malta School District Office. On Friday, March 24th, Ag Day was held for the first time at the Event Center, which is the old National Guard Armory on the south skirt of town. William Edward Baker (Bill), 76 passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023, of natural causes at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, MT with his family by his side. Bill was born June 15, 1946, in Havre, MT to Ed and Arline (Klingler) Baker. Bill was raised on the family farm near Savoy where he learned the value of hard work. Thelma Jean Stubblefield Bjorklund passed away from natural causes on April 30, 2023. She was 84 years old. Born in Malta, MT on November 2, 1938, to Everett and Millie Stubblefield, she was raised on the family farm near Loring, MT, and later moved into Malta for school. Thelma graduated from Malta High School in 1955. At the age of 16, she attended the University of Montana, graduating in 1959 with a degree in Social Work and a Minor in Music. Recently members of the Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club, assisted by volunteers from Malta Kiwanis, decorated 50 oak barrels located throughout down town Malta.. Each barrel received a colorful birdhouse setting near a small white picket fence decorated with spring flowers. Last Sunday, the M-ette Alumni held a Girls/Boys Basketball Camp for Malta M-ette legend and Montana Lady Griz Hall of Famer Skyla Sisco, in hopes to help with her battle with breast cancer.
