The Malta seniors played the final concert of their careers on Friday, May 13. A concert that was set to be played outside, was thankfully moved into the gymnasium due to wind and rain. There were two authors at a book signing hosted by the Phillips County Museum on Wednesday, May 11. Coffee and cookies were provided to guests as they were able to talk to the authors and get their books signed. One author, Heidi Lulloff, is a local author of now three children's books. We were blessed with a nice gentle rain that kind of reminded us older folks of the rains we used to get! It was only one day but it made everyone smile! Dora’s son Steve and wife Judy just returned from a trip to Paris Germany, and a cruise North from there. They said it was beautiful and they enjoyed it a lot. They both taught in the Billings schools. Steve was president of the Billings BEA for many years and Judy taught a class at Eastern. The community is saddened to hear that longtime former resident Sarah Solberg Ostlund had passed away in Billings. I hadn’t been fishing in a while. Not like this anyway. For three days in a row, my friend Mike and I fished Fort Peck Lake from morning ‘til night with little interference other than time out to cook meals and run the dogs. John G. Flansaas, 94, died Monday, May 9, at the Hi-Line Retirement Center. John was born April 6, 1928, on the family farm near Lovejoy, present-day Loring, to Andrew and Bertha Flansaas. He had just celebrated his 94th birthday last month, with nearly all his surviving family attending. It was a very special event that he and his family truly cherished. He attended elementary school at Hermanson School and graduated from Loring High School. John served for two years in the Army, serving in Japan and Korea during the Korean War, as a medic.... Eleanor Henrietta (Koss) Emond passed away on Feb 24th, 2022, at the age of 94. She was surrounded with love and passed peacefully. Eleanor was born in Malta in 1927 at Aunt Mildred Hoyne's house. Her dad had taken her mom into town on a sled with horses to wait on the arrival. He bundled her up with quilts and hot rocks for her feet to keep warm. The trip took two days. Sarah Marie Ostlund escaped her earthly struggles on May 3, 2022, in Billings. Sarah was born in 1931, in Malta, Montana, the second of Albert and Olga Solberg's 10 children. Her beautiful red hair matched her beautiful disposition. Growing up on her father's homestead north of Dodson, she began working at a very young age, helping with household chores and the care of her younger siblings. Russell (Russ) M. Mattfeldt, 80, passed away at his home in Malta with his loving wife, Sweetie, by his side on May 8, 2022. Russ was born to Hugh and Carrie (Storkson) Mattfeldt on July 17, 1941, in Glasgow, MT. He joined 4 big brothers in the family home. Russ graduated from Hinsdale High School in 1959. After high school Russ applied his many talents to the variety of the jobs he worked throughout his life.
