  • CBP to be flexible on port of entry hours in PC

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|May 29, 2019

You spoke, they listened. After numerous town hall meetings across the Hi-Line — including two well-attended meetings in Malta — the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has decided to not cut the hours at several northern Montana ports of Entry, including the Port of Morgan located in Phillips County’s Loring. Earlier this year, the CBP announced that it was looking to reduce the hours at the Port of Morgan and was met with heavy resistance from local farmers, ranchers, and sports racing enthusiasts as well as local and national polit...

I helped bring the Phillips County Motorsports to Malta starting in 2002 and remained actively involved with the organization until 2017. I am writing this letter today to let the people of Phillips County know that I am no longer a member of PCMS nor do I sit on any boards. • Should I stay or should I go?

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors columnist|May 29, 2019

Isn’t this a wonderful spring? Days of rain mixed with days of snow, cold, and lots of wind. It’s enough to make people leave. But take my word -- they’ll regret it. I know very few folks who have moved away from Montana and not in some small way regretted their decision. It’s hard to come back. Wages are better most everywhere else, rent is cheaper, and then there’s the weather. The high temperature today in Phoenix is expected to be 81. Bozeman’s not even going to hit 50. Yet Bozeman is...

  • Yes, I went to State C Track...

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|May 29, 2019

I see it coming. This week I had the chance to cover the 2019 State Class A-C Track and Field Meet in Laurel, MT. At this event were the three Class C teams that are covered in the PCN. I know it’s coming. Why didn’t you go to the 2019 State AA-B meet in Kalispell to cover Malta’s track teams? Over the years I have gotten flak for covering the smaller schools, but I have always responded the same. All of our local kids work hard and we are the Phillips County News, meaning we cover every sport...

  • Counciling Corner for Mar 29: You Don't Want To Give Up

    American Counseling Association|May 29, 2019

Life is full of challenges. Some big, some small, but all can dishearten us at times and make us feel overwhelmed and discouraged. While the goal of some challenge may be important to you, it can be easy to lose sight of that goal when things get in the way. Other responsibilities, a task’s difficulty, a lack of time or just the fear of failing, can all cause you to give up. Step one in taking on a challenge is clearly defining what it is that you want to accomplish. Identify and write down the goal you want to reach. It should be something s...

  • Seeking a history of the Hi-Line

    Micah Chang, PCN Correspondent|May 29, 2019

This morning at the Country Inn, I was eating breakfast and overheard a conversation about what to do with a recently deceased family member’s letters and postcards. A woman at the table voiced her opinion that “her great-grandkids don’t need to know those stories.” I couldn’t help but smile at that comment because I wondered if my great-grandfather, John Bruckner, had that conversation with his wife Ida, or if my grandparents, Laurin and Mary-Ellen, discussed what stories would be told about our family as they were moving to Billings....
