    Pierre Bibbs, Publisher|Jun 22, 2022

The 19th Annual Milk River Gospel Jamboree (MRGJ) featured plenty of talent this past weekend, all deserving to tell their own story. This year, the PCN caught up with David Irvin, half of the husband-wife duo David and Beth Irvin, who have been married for close to 38 years. They had previously performed at the MRGJ in 2018, and Beth by herself in 2017 as a comedian. The couple, who performs acoustic gospel and country music, live in a town named Peculiar, which is near Kansas City, Mo. "We are...

At the June 14 Malta City Council meeting, Mayor John Demarais and the council received word that the cost for the new Trafton Lift Station came in at $200,000 over the original bid. “This actually isn’t too bad,” said Mayor Demarais. “When comparing other cities and the issues they are having. This is what the entire country is dealing with, and the city needs this new lift station.” The council approved the application for a loan in two installme...

  • Sign-up opens for surplus drawing licenses and permits

    Jun 22, 2022

Hunters interested in signing up for licenses or permits left over from the special license and permit drawing can do so from June 20 through July 20. This new process for the sale of surplus licenses began in 2020 in response to issues in years past. The old process was vulnerable to long lag times, confusion and a perception of inequity for those unable to use the first-come, first-served online option starting at 5 a.m. Hunters can sign up for leftover licenses and permits that were not distributed by the drawing through MyFWP on the FWP...

Many of the Loringites attended the funeral services for Ruth Flansaas on Tuesday in Malta. We send our condolences to the family. I made the trip in to town on Monday evening for the sharing of memories. The wind blew like it would never stop on a couple of days. The community picnic was postponed due to wet, windy weather. Then on Thursday the weather was almost perfect, calm, 70’s. Then back at it on Friday and hot. I think it got to 90 degrees. Saturday was very warm but in the evening it s...

The following is the opinion of Mrs. Austin: Sympathy to adorable baby calves, who are branded and operated on without any anesthetic etc. It is cruel. • Phillips County Museum News for Wednesday, June 22, 2022

    Lori Taylor, P. C. Museum Curator|Jun 22, 2022

It’s not a plane, not a dinosaur…but a flying reptile! The museum added a model Pteranodon to the great room this year. Although Pteranodons didn’t inhabit this part of the continent, we think he fits in nicely between the Curry brothers’ photo and moose. Pteranodons were interesting little guys, standing on all fours when not flying in search of fish. This was learned when fossilized tracks were found, showing the four contact points. Also, like some birds (and hang gliders), Pteranodons rode thermals. However, the museum’s Pteranodo...

  • A Note from the Artistic Director at Fort Peck Summer Theatre

    Jun 22, 2022

Thank you for all your support as we embark on our 53rd season! The start of this summer was undeniably rocky, as we navigated around COVID cases, virtual rehearsals, cancelled flights and missing materials. We are in the final week of tetris for our Rep schedule: rehearsing & building 3 shows all at once, over a 3-week period. I wanted to address a little hiccup in the branding for our programming: The Complete History of America (abridged), written by the (in)famous trio of comedians known as The Reduced Shakespeare Company, is definitely a...

  • We have to catch up... educate yourselves

    Jun 22, 2022

Dear fellow Americans, Remember way back in 2008, as he was making a presidential pick me speech, Barack Obama said we would have to "fundamentally transform America?" Where good is evil and evil is good. Look around you, abortion - good. Pro-life - bad. Stealing is okay just as long as you steal from the right people or businesses. You can even kill somebody gets out on a no-cash bond and do it again, all in the name of equal justice. You don't transform something you love. I love this country, I love what it stands for, you can come from...

  • It may take years to get back to Cooke City again

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Jun 22, 2022

Cooke City felt like a very long ways from anywhere when I arrived there 52 years ago. I had driven over the Beartooth Pass from Red Lodge, and was still awestruck when I rolled into town. I had never seen such magnificent country. I rented a cabin from Olive Nordquist who used to own a ranch on the Clark Fork where Ernest Hemingway stayed. There were saddle horses to rent tied to hitching posts at each end of town, and bears were frequent visitors after dark. I got a job there with an...
