The Phillips County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Miner’s Bar in Zortman on the Fourth of July concerning a man waving a knife at bar patrons on Independence Day. Brian Dean Bell, 31 whose last known address is in Dodson, made his initial appearance in court last week and is charged with assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment, both felonies, after he was arrested in Zortman. From now until the middle of September, lovers of vintage, Montana history books can lay claim to some hard to find, out of print, books can be won as the Phillips County Museum is holding a silent auction on many titles from its library. “These are books that people have donated and we just don’t have enough room to store them,” said Phillips County Museum Curator Sharon Emond. In Sunday's AMX action at the Phillips County Fair, Chinook's Mike Powell ran a 1976 Pontiac Lemans. He fell in love with the sport after experiencing it for the first time. Not everyone earns the distinction of winning first place in Senior Showmanship in showing beef, but at this year’s Phillips County Fair Madison Waters did. There’s nothing sweeter than the sight of a red and white bobber disappearing underwater. It’s probably what got me hooked on fishing. This year’s fair was pretty legit. I enjoyed it even more so than I did last year, due to the fact that I had the opportunity to attend more events. This was the first time I have ever seen a tractor pull. I have to admit I’d never put a vehicle under that much punishment. I will never hop on a bull to face two tons of fun after I’m thrown off like a rag doll. You couldn’t pay me to attempt to break a horse. All those things were cool to watch though. From a distance. Wow, August already! The Phillips County Fair is a recent memory. I enjoyed it this year and am planning to make the 100th anniversary next year! Lula Ellen Duncan Webster left this world on Sunday, August 3, 2014 after an extended illness during which daughter Susan moved back from Minnesota in March of 2012 to help care for her. For the last 19 months Ellen (as she was known to all) also received hospice care. Ellen was born in Dodson, MT on October 6, 1939 but a long-time resident of Fergus County and managed two different businesses in Lewistown.
