    Kari Hould, PCN Staff|Aug 10, 2022

It was one in the books and one for the records...as the 2022 Phillips County Fair shut off the lights and closed the gates Sunday evening. The unofficial numbers offered by the Fair Board early to make this weeks print deadline stated Grand Pass sales came to 308. Friday night the crowd listened to the music of Ian Munsick where 1300 additional tickets were sold for a total of 1608. Those numbers don't include children age ten and under, according to Shane Anderson of the Phillips County Fair...

  • A Family Legacy Continues as Domire Wins Second Round Robin

Jessica French Domire, For the PCN|Aug 10, 2022

Round Robin is the most difficult of the 4-H/FFA showmanship competitions. One must win showmanship in horse, beef, hog, or sheep in order to advance to the Round Robin. There, the top showmen from each class and their animal all compete against each other. In the Round Robin contest each Champion Showman must show their own animal as well as each of the other animals and answer questions about that type of animal, animal husbandry, markets, uses, etc. The Round Robin therefore, tests the knowle...

  • Sims: It's Just the Beginning!

    Sabra Sims, For the PCN|Aug 10, 2022

My dream ever since I was little, has been to be able to perform in the Fort Peck Theatre. A tradition my mom and I have done every year for at least the past seven years was to see a show at the Fort Peck Theatre for my birthday present. In first grade, I got the courage to audition for a part in the Missoula Children's Theatre and was given a role. Every year that they come, I have been given a part. In sixth grade, I auditioned for, and received the part of Toad, who is one of the lead...

With the help of FWP personnel and 58 volunteers, the egg collection goals were exceeded. A total of 2,796 walleye were captured in trap nets, with approximately 96 million eggs collected. "Inclement weather during the first part of April made collection efforts challenging with gusty winds and cold-water...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, August 10, 2022

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Aug 10, 2022

Sympathy to victims of the flooding down South. It’s too bad they can’t send some water (rain) to us here. It is August! The weather is HOT! It has been 90 to 100 degrees for days. But in a few months, it will be cold and we can complain about that. Happy Birthday to all August birthdays. This includes Sally Austin, my son Mitchell Moore, and my granddaughter Challise Young Hoff! Happy Anniversary to all! North 40 Café hosted a Chinese dinner Saturday, 60 or 70 people came to eat. Chef Vinc...

  • Loring News for Wednesday, August 10, 2022

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Aug 10, 2022

Harvest is in full swing around here. The crops are short but at least there is grain to put in the granary. The weather was very hot with a hot wind but then cooled off on Saturday. Just perfect weather for the Phillips County Fair! I went up to Dodson for entry day and again on Saturday for breakfast and to check out the exhibits. Kudos to the Fair Board for making lemonade out of lemons with the total destruction of all the display areas and grandstand. The area looked very nice. I worked at...

  • Dodson News for Wednesday, August 10, 2022

    Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Aug 10, 2022

Another successful fair has come and gone. People I talked to said it was good and they enjoyed the exhibits etc. Hope the attendance was up to what was expected. Dora Henry's nephew, Eddie Lee Hanson, and wife Sandie of Lewistown visited Dora on Sunday afternoon. They were up for church in Malta and to check out the fair. It is certainly dry again, but we have been lucky so far on fires. Linda Vulk of East Helena told her mom there was a big fire in a wheat field just west of East Helena and if...

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given American Prairie final approval to graze bison across 63,500 acres of federal public lands in Phillips County. This is the third time American Prairie has been authorized to modify federal grazing permits to allow bison to graze a portion of their historic range in north central Montana. American Prairie’s CEO Alison Fox says the final record of decision (ROD) r...

  • Response to: Ideas, Thoughts, and Input

    Aug 10, 2022

Dear Editor, I read Kari's Quiet Corner today. In response, I would, especially, like to see acts of kindness stories printed in the PCN. I realize they would not be a regular feature, and it would take a 'listening ear' to garner those stories. Another thing: I think it was when Eva Solberg was writing for the PCN that she wrote articles about Phillips County's senior citizens. I found them interesting. It has been said "that everyone has a story". That was 'brought home to me' when I attended a celebration at Landusky a number of years ago....

  • My Trigger Finger Has Taken an Abrupt Turn

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Aug 10, 2022

As the opening of upland bird season approaches, my trigger finger has taken an abrupt turn to the right. It doesn’t appear to be political. More likely it’s the result of 70 years of use and abuse. I hope it still works. The options are few. A left-handed shooter, I could learn to shoot right-handed except the trigger finger on that hand is a joint short following a run-in years ago with an electric saw. I could switch fingers. The middle finger on my left hand remains relatively uns...

Many braved the 90 degree temperatures during the Indian Relay Races event at the 107th Annual Phillips County Fair, and they were not disappointed. The weather turned out great and everything else ran pretty smooth." KillEagle Sr. said that the competitors performed well and that he was pleased to pull talent from Idaho,...

When the checkered flag dropped in the A Main race, Jamie Jaynes would claim first and take home the trophy. Aug 10, 2022

The 2022 PC Fair was electric last Saturday Night as the Crash for Cash Championship featured plenty of smacks from welded cars in a short but satisfying finale that saw a new champion, Tim Sorenson of Williston, N.D. "For having only eight cars, I say that it went pretty good, but the main event was the fastest that I have ever seen," said Scott Skoyen, the coordinator of the PC Demo Derby.
