The 106th Phillips County Fair got underway Thursday, August 5, with the 4-H and FFA Swine Show. There was a total of 47 entries into this year's show over three divisions. In the Senior Showmanship Division, Kennedy Koss was the winner. Marshall Caves was second, and Lauren Tuss was third. The 17-year-old Koss will be a junior this year at Malta. It is August! Happy Birthday to all who have birthdays this month. Birthdays include my son Mitchell Moore, Sally Austin, Challise (Young) Hoff, my granddaughter, and Allie Olson. It has been staying very hot with no rain. Some rain has been forecast but has not showed up except for one small shower we had earlier. The 106th fair has come and gone. The 4H sale went well and price was pretty good for the kids. The events were enjoyed and people enjoyed visiting others they had not seen for some time. This year has been one for the books! After last year with the restrictions on travel, etc. I thought “back to more normal” would be great! I was not thinking about a record year for no moisture and high temperatures then pile on a truckload of grasshoppers! What a week! For starters, my Chicago Bulls are one of the most improved teams on paper after the first week of NBA Free Agency, the U.S. was pretty dominant at the 2020 Olympic Games, racking up a total of 113 medals, 39 of which were gold. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public comment on a proposal to establish emergency haying and grazing leases on portions of 14 Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in the state. The 106th Phillips County Fair Indian Relay was held on Sunday, August 8, and though it was chilly in the grandstands, all went well until the last hour of races. Then it turned epic. A torrential downpour at 5:50 p.m., which shut down the Indian Relay event for a half-hour. The Grandstands at the Phillips County Fair were packed for the AMX Racing and Crash for Cash events on Saturday, August 7, in Dodson. The AMX Super event was won by Willie Bice of Plentywood, who had never raced at the Dodson Track before. Bice edged out Great Falls' Dustin McKinney who had previously won at the P.C. The Phillips County Fair Rodeo kicked off Grandstand events with a bang and plenty of action last Thursday, August 5. A few locals were able to participate in the event, including barrel racers Kelsie Robinson of Saco, and Morgan McEwen of Malta. The Rural Communities and Agricultural Neighbors (RCAN) held a sanctioned Ranch Rodeo at the 106th Annual Phillips County Fair in Dodson last Sunday, August 8.
