    The Malta Senior Center will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Saturday August 17, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. with cake, coffee and lemonade. The event is open to the public. The Moose Hall, formerly located where the Malta post office sits, was home to the first senior center. Hugh Simanton was the director of the group. In the period of 1968-78 members numbered roughly 260. The period of 1978-96 numbers were around 360.     Justin Lucas, Phillips County farmer, rancher, husband, and father, was killed in an automobile accident Thursday, August 8, 35 miles north of Malta. The Montana Highway Patrol reported that Lucas was driving a semi hauling a trailer full of hay and overturned after making a sharp turn and the vehicle fell on its side and a fire started after the crash.     Another successful season for the Malta Swim Team came to a conclusion the first week of August in Sidney, Mont., as the swimmers competed in the State Swim Meet. Team Coach Cassandra Pratt, in her third year leading the team, said that though the weather was hot, the six swimmers who qualified for the State Meet showed up ready to compete and she couldn't believe that the season was already at its end.
