The Malta City Council met on Tuesday, September 14, for their first meeting of the month. The council received a visit from Jane Ereaux, a member of the Phillips County Stagecoach Restoration Committee, in which she updated the council on the status of the project. Ereaux informed the council that the stagecoach is done!, and is ready to return to Malta. As part of a novel study on Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson, the Saco seventh and eighth graders got the opportunity to learn how to sew on Thursday, September 9. The novel, set in Vida, Montana, during World War I, depicts the struggles of sixteen-year-old Hattie as she tries to prove up on her claim. One such struggle is learning how to quilt. My wife and I have a new passion. It involves physical exertion, lots of teamwork, and kneepads. Sometimes it gets loud. We're mixing our own concrete and pouring a patio, one 32-inch square at a time. We finished two squares last week and only have 37 more to go. VFW Auxiliary is offering contests for grades 6-12. Patriot Pen is for grades 6-8 and is offered to any student in those grades. They must be enrolled in a public, private or parochial school or home study program in the U.S. and its territories.
