Gina Lamb, member of the PCAA and head ghoul for the Haunted House, said that no less than 25 props require more than one person to carry and the number of small Halloween items are too numerous to count. Lamb said there should be at least 12 spooky displays in the basement this year and...

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 24, 2018

Exactly one week before kids young, old, and past age prepare to go trick-or-treating this year, various local students will go door to door for a more meaningful reason. That reason is to help collect cans of food for the Malta Food Bank, a local charity that provides food and other items for Phillips County residents in need. "We have a trick-or-treat for the food bank and it's done by a few youth groups," said June Cornell of the Malta Food Bank. "The kids really get into it and they really...

Editor's Note: Students at the University of Montana’s School of Journalism are once again providing coverage of Montana election contests for the state’s news organizations. Montana smokers could be on the hook for an additional $2 per pack if ballot initiative Initiative 185 passes. The tobacco industry is shelling out big bucks in hopes it won’t happen. It’s a big reason your mailbox is stuffed this election season with flyers arguing its pros and cons. The initiative’s backers see its passage as a “win-win.” Higher taxes for tobacco produ...

    Thea Solberg, PCN Correspondent|Oct 24, 2018

If there could have been a trophy awarded for the weather, today would have gotten it. With clear, azure blue skies, not a wisp of a breeze, and warm 65 -degree temperatures, it was a picture perfect day for running. The green grass and the golden trees were a pleasing contrast of color. Dotting the sky was an occasional colorful Para-glider soaring above the golf course and Mount Sentinel. Spectators were lightly dressed compared to the cold windy state meet of the previous year where all manner of winter wear could be seen. No goosebumps...

  • Voters to Decide if Ballot Collection Should Remain Legal

Caitlyn Patel, Community News Service University of Montana School of Journalism|Oct 24, 2018

Supporters of LR-129 claim their proposal will ensure that mail-in ballots are secure and that the state’s elections are free of potential fraud, but opponents argue the entire effort may cause unnecessary gridlock at the polls and distract from any actual security issue. The initiative would prohibit the collection of another individual’s ballot, although family members and caregivers could deliver another person’s ballot but would need to sign a registry at the polling place. People not authorized to deliver the ballot to a polling place...

Greetings on this fine fall Sunday! The whole week the highs were in the upper 60's while the lows were around the freezing mark. And the extra bonus, not much wind! The robins are still hanging around, yea! The funeral for Earl Wasson was on Saturday. It is a familiar lament that we don't see that many friends except at funerals and weddings. I am happy that we can get together and renew old acquaintances even as we say goodbye to a neighbor. Donna Dyrdahl and Gwen Henderson were some who drove...
