  • In Case of Emergency

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Oct 25, 2017

"I ran over to the bleachers and the bleachers collapsed and there are four kids under them and they need help." Minutes later paramedics, firefighters and hospital staff across Phillips County were alerted of the disaster and sirens echoed across the city of Malta. Thankfully, the panicked caller was Phillips...

  • Haunted House Horrors

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Oct 25, 2017

The intent of the crew assembling the Phillips County Ambulance Association's Haunted House isn't to terrify anyone...but we all have heard of a certain road that is paved with good intentions. "There are 13 scenes but we are not trying to horrify anyone," P.C. Ambulance's Gina Lamb said. "We want it to be scary and we want it to be suspenseful, but we don't want to scare people so bad that they don't come back." This year marks the 14th Haunted House in the basement of Stretch's Pizza and the...

  • The rest of the story

    Oct 25, 2017

Dear Editor, And now you know — the rest of the story It happened in N.E. Montana. A rancher announced to his family that the three-wheeler needed repairs and therefore should not be ridden until a mechanic diagnostic would trace the problem. Unknown to this man, his son watched where he hid the key for the three-wheeler. At a convenient time, the son invited his good friends to ride with him. Tragically, the son was killed immediately with the friends being flown to the Billings hospital. Another Montana story happened in Great Falls. A physic...

  • A simple 'sorry' would suffice

    Oct 25, 2017

Dear Editor, First I would like to send my best wishes to Mark Hebert and hope he gets his health issues resolved successfully and quickly, we're lucky to have him in this town. Get better soon Mark! Second I'd like to ask, are we adults or children? I remember growing up one of the things both my mother and father would tell me is that, "An adult can admit a mistake and apologize, a child tries to shift the blame and deny it ever occurred." After watching the argument this week about our President's phone call to a bereaved widow of a fallen...

  • Heart stays closed, for the time being

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Oct 25, 2017

Thank you to each of you who offered prayers, positives vibes, and advice following my column announcing I was to have open heart surgery. Knowing that a surgeon was to crack open my breastbone and fondle my heart was a scary thing to worry about for the past two months and each of your prayers, your words and wisdom helped alleviate those sometimes dark thoughts. That is the good news. Here the so-so news: My surgery has been postponed and moved to Rochester, Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic. I won’t get into why the procedure was moved (twice, wit... Full story

  • Terrible introduction

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 25, 2017

So, my wife left me. That sounded bad. I just meant she went on a two-day seminar to Billings. This means I was left alone with my three-year-old, which I have to admit was a little bit of a daunting task. My wife is my everything. She is my alarm some mornings. She is way more decisive about what we should eat (Whether I cook it or she does.) She is my emotional support. She is my best friend. And if something is lost, generally she knows where to find it. My wife is a miracle worker. Luckily f...

  • Whitewater News & Opinion for October 23, 2017

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Oct 25, 2017

Sympathy to all fire victims in California. Deepest sympathy to all homeless people. I saw some buy the road in Billings. (Malta has its own homeless lady, she sometimes sleeps in the public bathroom in Veteran’s Memorial Park.) How terrible. The USA is the richest country in the world and we have homeless living on the streets. Here’s a real solution: there are many abandoned farm and ranch houses all across the country and many apartment buildings, too. They could be fixed up for the hom...

  • Phillips County Museum News for October 11, 2017

    Lori Taylor, PC Museum Curator|Oct 25, 2017

What looks like a spinning disk and flies in the night sky? Those that “believe” know that it is a UFO. Starting in the 1950’s reports in Montana of UFO’s began to increase. Who was the first Montanan to defy the skeptics and say “Yes, I’ve seen them too?" That distinction remains unknown. What is known is that in the 1960's, across Montana, armed and ready missiles were deactivated with no apparent reason. Today, we might worry about terrorists but a few decades ago many blamed UFO’s. The PC Museum played host to guests that were research...
