  • Loring News for Wednesday, October 27, 2021

    Dixie Stordahl, PCN Correspondent|Oct 27, 2021

I’ve said this before, if funerals weren’t for a person who has passed away, the gathering would be a joyous occasion! Debbie Dyrdahl’s family honored her wishes to have her final farewell at the Loring Lutheran Church. Cindy Clark, lay pastor, had been visiting Debbie and offering communion for years. She was honored to do the service for Debbie’s family. Debbie’s sister, Jeri and Gary Reba, of Denver, and her two older brothers, Jim and Jack Halter, were here and Debbie’s daughter, S...

    Helen Austin, PCN Correspondent|Oct 27, 2021

Sympathy to the families of Cliff Rustad. He was a well-known Auctioneer for many years. In Whitewater, a kidnapper drove an out of state foreign car and kidnapped Pat Murdock’s black cat. Then the kidnappers dumped the poor kitty off in Whitewater! So sad. If you see a stray black cat, please feed it. We don’t want any animal to starve in Whitewater. Note: Kittens to give away. Call Lyn or Bruce Hill. They say the kittens are adorable. On Sunday, the Lutheran Church had their Fall Harvest Din...

  • I'm just running my dogs!

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Oct 27, 2021

The season has been slow. I’ve only shot a handful of birds since the Sept. 1. opener. It isn’t for a lack of trying. More days than not I’m hunting, so often in fact that I’ve quit telling people I’m hunting and instead say I’m just running the dogs. The birds simply aren’t there. All my favorite places have been busts, but I’m too old to find new favorite places, so I hunt them anyway. I’d heard there were birds around the grain fields, but my preference is wilder country with sagebrush an...

The City of Malta has purchased the “old” National Guard Armory and I’ve had several questions about its history. The Armory was originally dedicated on May 1, 1965. • Memories for Wednesday, October 27, 2021

    Compiled by Mark Foss|Oct 27, 2021

1 years ago- Wednesday, October 26, 2011 The message: Don’t close our post office The sentiment was clear and predictable. Residents of Loring and Whitewater don’t want to see their rural post offices close. “Why are we going backward,” said one resident, who pointed out the “our ancestors” worked and fought to get mail service so they wouldn’t be so isolated. The Loring and Whitewater post offices are among 83 in Montana the US Postal Service is proposing to close in a cost-cutting measure. Public meetings were held Tuesday in both communit...
