  • Ms. Montana delights in Dodson

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Oct 28, 2015

Danielle Wineman, 2015 Ms. Montana, was born and raised in Cut Bank, Mont., so she is no stranger to the Treasure State's Hi-Line. For the better part of October, Wineman has stopped along many cities and towns along the Hi-Line – including Malta, Saco and Glasgow – and last week stopped in Dodson to talk with the school’s students about being Ms. Montana, but more important to her, about bullying. Prior to speaking with the elementary and high school students, Wineman met with Dodson Schoo...

  • Fancy fire hydrants festoon M-Trail

    Oct 28, 2015

Malta Trails Inc., President Laura Pankratz met Bohn’s Bones Arts head Kathy Bohn-Bagley in July with an idea that would, hopefully, please everyone, and no doubt keep the city’s pooch population on-target. The idea was to have Bohn-Bagley paint four different themes on fire hydrants along Trail’s “M-Trail” in four different themes. Bohn-Bagley has finished the artwork and now walkers, hikers and canines alike have yet one more thing to gaze upon while trekking the M-Trail. “Partners...

  • Teagan gets her first deer as she stays on track

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Oct 28, 2015

I didn’t shoot my first deer until I was 21, but I was blooded at 12. And it wasn’t blood from a deer that my father smeared on my face, but blood from a rabbit. We didn’t hunt deer when I was a kid. They were few and far between in Indiana back then. Instead I was raised hunting small game -- rabbits, squirrels, and quail. I don’t remember exactly where I got my first rabbit, but I do recall my father dabbing his fingers in the critter’s blood and marking my face with it. He told me I was a h...

  • Doc Curtis chimes in on drug companies

    Oct 28, 2015

Dear Editor, I did appreciate the comments by Peter J. Pitts, President, Center for Medicine, in the October 14th issue of the PCN. It did help clarify some of the incredible obstacles, issues and expenses the drug companies are compelled to deal with in the research and development (R & D) of new and /or modified pharmaceutical and vaccine production. His points were valid, accurate and well stated. And while I have been turned out to pasture for a few years now there are a few other issues which are not as clear cut as those Mr. Pitts...

  • Keyboard Cowards

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Oct 28, 2015

I really wish I could’ve jumped on the Cubs bandwagon this post-season…. But honestly, I just couldn’t do it. No matter how many seasons they have under .500, I just can’t abandon my White Sox and it felt like if I cheered for the Cubbies, I would be in the wrong. People ask, how can you be from Chicago and not like a team representing your city? Looking from the outside that is a valid question but for some reason sports can bring out the worst of people. It’s ridiculous when you look at things...

If you are up before sunrise about 6 a.m. or so the planets, Venus and Jupiter are really close together and Mars is just a bit lower in the sky. It is striking to see. So look east. Also if the horizon is cloud free, Mercury is visible. Roxy Rae Lewis, daughter of Leah and Ryan Lewis of Boulder, was baptized into the Loring Lutheran Church on Sunday. Welcome to Christ’s family Roxy! Elise Compton was her God parent. The whole congregation was invited over to the Compton home for coffee and s...

    American Counseling Association|Oct 28, 2015

If you're in a work situation where you aren't getting along with your supervisor or boss, it can be easy to forget that the person who keeps giving you a hard time is also a human being with feelings and problems you aren't seeing. And why does that matter to you? Because studies have shown that one of the most important things affecting someone's job performance, stress levels, and overall job satisfaction and happiness is the relationship they have with the person above them. So what can you do? The only way to improve such situations is...
