The 23rd Annual Phillips County Health Care Foundation dinner and auction will be held this Friday at 5 p.m. at the Malta City Hall with all proceeds going to help purchase needed medical equipment for the Phillips County Hospital and Hi-Line Retirement Center. The warm weather that has graced the area over the last week isn't going to hamper the Murph's Annual Ice Fishing Tournament according to his widow, Cindy Murphy. On Monday morning, Cindy told the PCN that the tourney is on and the fish are biting. "There are still 18 or 19 inches of ice," Cindy said. Oil has once again fouled the Yellowstone River. And this time around it’s not so shocking. Nearly two years ago a broken pipeline near Laurel leaked 50,000 gallons of crude oil into the river. Dear Editor, I noticed that on last Monday, which was a federal holiday to honor the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the American flags were not on display throughout down town Malta. I was told by our fire department that they do not display the flags for this special day, but do display them on September 11 which is now known as Patriot’s Day. Floyd Griffin Kodalen, 91 years of age, passed away of natural causes, on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Cambridge Court, his residence away from home. Croxford Funeral Home is handling the cremation services and a family and close friend service will be held at Brown's Lake at a future date. Alice Marilyn (Crumley) Motichka, age 83 passed away January 14, 2015 at her home at the Springs of Whitefish. Alice was born September 2, 1931 in Conrad, MT to Charles and Arella (Fretheim) Crumley. Alice grew up on a farm about 30 miles east of Conrad. There were no sons in the family, so Alice was raised “like a boy”. At the age of 11 she started running the family combine in the fields. The Saco-Whitewater Panthers had a lukewarm weekend, defeating the Dodson Coyotes 65-24 in Whitewater for the team's Senior Night. They did drop the next game 82-26 to the Frazer Bearcubs last Saturday.
