  • Parade of Lights followed by Santa visit

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Dec 4, 2019

Though the Bank of Malta's Santa Open House wasn't slated to begin until 6 p.m. last Monday night in Malta, parents and children were lined up down the block and visiting Saint Nick ahead of schedule and before the Parade of Lights could make its way through downtown. Kim Hinkson, a six-year-old who moved to Malta from Texas a year ago, was one of the many children in line to visit Santa and while she waited, she pondered what she was going to ask for this Christmas. "I am excited because I...

USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) said producers with Federal crop insurance that are experiencing a delay in harvesting their crop and potentially have a loss should contact their Approved Insurance Provider (AIP) to file a Notice of Loss and request more time to harvest. The late maturing crop coupled with extremely wet and wintery conditions this fall have extended harvest for producers in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Eric Bashore, Director of RMA’s Billings Regional Office, reminds producers who have Federal crop ins...

  • Something's brewing in Malta

    Mark Hebert, Publisher|Dec 4, 2019

The weather on Black Friday in Phillips County was somewhat frightful, but the smell of coffee brewing coming from Milk River Mocha was oh so delightful. Milk River Mocha owner Janessa Salsbery and employee Jade Melmend worked both sides of the coffee kiosk drive-thru windows as two of the County's newest baristas filled orders early on Black Friday. Milk River Mocha - a stone's throw from the Milk River - is a small beige building conveniently pinched between Westside Self-Service and the...

They were then installed in Malta on November 23, 2019. Three chapters were then moved to the Malta...

  • I hope it doesn't spoil him

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Dec 4, 2019

My 12-year-old grandson Isaac shot a good muley buck earlier this month. I hope it doesn’t spoil him. In an effort to get young people interested in hunting, the state, along with a number of hunting organizations, offer special deals for kids. Youth hunts are scheduled before the opening of pheasant, waterfowl and the general big game seasons so that young hunters can experience the sport for the first time without the competition of others in the field. The weather is also typically a bit m...

  • Eric Carmen was correct

    Pierre Bibbs, Sports Editor|Dec 4, 2019

I don’t even know the words of Eric Carmen’s All By Myself, but I know the most important part of the song… The hook. Those words ran through my head as I found myself without my family on Sunday night, as Susan, PJ, and Lincoln headed to Sidney with her parents. Poor PJ had to get his tonsils and adenoids removed because of the size of his tonsils. It was because of his tonsils that PJ would hold on to colds longer. This year it got so bad that despite the doc-prescribed cold medicine and h...

The Malta M-ettes won five State B titles in the 90's. Tuesday, December 3, marked 25 years since Malta won the State title in 1994, a trophy that would eventually be lost forever as the school burned down in 1995. Though the hardware is lost, the memories are not and as we prepare to enter the 2019 season of M-ette basketball, the PCN caught up Linda (Cummings) Hudyma and Beth (Welch) Young, a pair of All-State athletes from the 1994 championship team. Hudyma and Young were two of five M-ettes...

As the Thanksgiving Day gatherings are over and the Christmas season festivities approach, American Legion Post 57 (and other Veterans Associations) gratuitously gives thanks to the community for its support of our goals and the monetary help in our donations to community functions. Many people see the combined Legion, VFW, and Sons of the American Legion members as we provide Honor Guard duties at a veteran’s funeral, and/or at other various patriotic events: but we also support many other projects. Like in many earlier years, this past y...
