Updates to the city phone system and community siren, progress on the City Pool Bathhouse, and new faces at Parks & Rec and the fire hall were the major topics of the Malta City Council at meetings held on November 24 and December 8. At the November 24 meeting, Public Works Director Jim Truelove reported that the city siren could no longer be set off by the timer in the Council Room or from the Sheriff’s Office. Eldora Henry, PCN Correspondent|Dec 23, 2020

We are seeing a little more ground all this week and the temperatures have been a bit better. On Sunday we had wind, then sunshine with the temps in the high 40s and no wind, and then a small rain storm. If you don't like the weather, just wait, you may get what you want. Polly Solberg and Dora Henry were in Havre on Wednesday and their snow is all gone. All bare hills and yards. The new highway is nice to drive on though. The Catholic ladies were out on Sunday delivering a container of goodies...

Merry Christmas to all! Shout out to a few people in California, Steve Dyrdahl, Doris Hart, and Lorna Knudson! Hope all are well. They all lived at Loring in the past and I know they read the PC News! Also hello to Tim Abney! Two weeks in a row, I've seen a young eagle on the way to Whitewater! On Saturday I went to Sue Hungerford's house. She has collected over 220 Christmas nativity scenes. They came from all over, she even has a set from Bethlehem. She even had jig saw puzzles of nativity scenes. Some even had little lights and music boxes. Her biggest one is a blow up scene in front of her preschool house and her tiniest one is about 3 inches square. She started collecting in 1981 and she is still collecting them. The nativity scenes are all beautiful....

  • Now, I'm okay with being "That Guy"

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoors Columnist|Dec 23, 2020

It took a while, but I’ve finally turned into that guy. My friends and I used to poke fun at older dudes who no longer hunted big game, didn’t care if they bagged a limit of birds, and were as pleased with the fluidity of their casts as they were with what was biting the end of their line. I couldn’t imagine life without elk, a game bag full of birds, or a fishless outing. I used to take great pride in harvesting an elk every fall. Back then I could walk forever, and I shot a lot of elk miles...

  • On Facing a Blue Christmas

    Krista Fahlgren, PCN Editor|Dec 23, 2020

As a person who cherishes the memories, traditions and rituals that accompany each holiday season, I feel especially aware of how many people may be struggling. Many of us are facing not just the choice as to how and with whom to celebrate, but how to get through the holidays without a loved one that we have lost this past...
