Common Core education scheme wrong for our children

Dear Editor,

The Common Core Education scheme is wrong for our children. Normally, government antics don’t excite me, i.e. the latest on increasing the minimum wage or the new farm bill as I am retired and I do not farm. But a silent alarm has been going off across America and I am wondering if moms, dads, grandparents, school boards or school administrators in Montana are aware of it.

Once again our elected government officials are trying to impress their ideals upon one of our most precious freedoms: the education of our children. The sneaky culprit called Common Core has slowly come to life here in American schools. It came about without input from parents, schools, or local school boards.

Apparently, it caught our elected officials off guard when stimulus funds were dangled as bait to sign on. Well, you say, it must be a good deal as it is being funded by some big money names i.e. Bill Gates. And the glossy rhetoric appeals to all. But, thank God we are still independent thinkers and when it comes to our children we tend to dig a little deeper.

Strip away the layers and Common Core will be exposed as a government attempt to dumb-down our students and does not meet our education standards. Also it fails to consider the damage to our children, recycles all our past failures and removes local school and parental control. It is a set of standards, not curriculum, it is political, not educational.

We owe it to our children to educate ourselves on this issue but our window of opportunity is short. We need to call our State Governor and demand that he issue an executive order that we be pulled out before it is too late.
