Dodson shows strength at first meet

The Dodson Coyotes track teams are back in the hunt. Nick Bear and Jesse Stephens both tasted victory in events at the Porcupine Invitational, hosted by Nashua in Wolf Point last Saturday April 26. This was the team's first meet of the season.

Raven Bear had a strong showing for the team as she single-handedly gained 40 points for Dodson, placing the school in sixth in girls team scoring.

The boys placed fourth in the meet with a total of 60 points.

Jesse Stephens won the javelin throw, with a toss of 131'8" and the high jump with a leap of 5'8". He placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17'8" feet. He placed third in the shot put with a toss of 35'8".

Nick Bear ran an impressive 5:11.6 mile as he won the event in his first outing of the year. Bear was second in the high jump after clearing 5'6". He also tied for second in the 400 meter run with a time of 57.1. The tie was with Scobey's Kyle Tran.

In the girls' events Raven Bear won the mile, with a time of 6:55.5. She nearly finished first in the double mile with a time of 15:18. Scobey's Emily Bjarko crossed the line a split second before Bear.

Bear also took second in the 800 meter run, with a time of 3:06.2. She took fourth place in the 300 hurdles.

Hinsdale's Bethany Lacock had an impressive showing winning all five events she attempted at the meet. She won the 100 with a time of 13.3, the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17 seconds, the high jump after clearing 4'10", triple jump with a length of 32'9", and long jump with a length of 14'3.25".

Whitewater was scheduled for the event but due to prom, the school was unable to attend.

Both Dodson and Whitewater competed yesterday at the Malta invitational and both schools will be present at the Whitewater Invitational Thursday.
