Extension Office Celebrates Arbor Day

Phillips Conservation District, Malta Dirt Daubers Garden Club and Phillips County Extension held a celebration honoring National Arbor Day on April 25 with the first and second grade students at the Malta Elementary School. Extension Agent, Marko Manoukian demonstrated how to plant a seedling tree, gifted to students by the Conservation District. An official Arbor Day proclamation was read by Malta City Mayor, Shyla Jones. Colorado Blue Spruce seedlings were gifted to elementary students at Dodson, Saco, Whitewater and Loring Elementary schools as well, by Phillips Conservation District

Later that morning, five Linden trees were planted at the HiLine Retirement Center (HLRC). Along with the Retirement Center, trees for the Town of Saco and the Phillips County Fair Board were also donated by the Conservation District in honor of this national tree planting event. Garden Club members dedicated the tree planted last year at HiLine Retirement Center in honor of historic Garden Club member, Sally Schumacher.
