Malta Cemetery recognized by State Secretary as one of 18 Montana sites over 100 years old

The Malta Cemetery has received recognition from the Montana Secretary of State for being a registered business with the state for 100 years.

There are only 18 business or organizations still operating in Montana that registered with the Secretary of State in 1914 and the Malta Cemetery is one of them.

There are approximately 4800 burials in the cemetery. The earliest burial was in 1894 before the Cemetery was organized.

The current directors of the Malta Cemetery are Bonnie Wiederrick, Jay Southwick, and David Boothe. The caretaker is David Rummel and the Secretary is Jean Pewitt.

Again this year the Cemetery is preparing for Memorial Day Weekend. Watering, mowing, and trimming will continue through May 22nd. A map and directory to aid in finding gravesites will be available in the northwest comer of the cemetery.

If visitors need additional help, the caretaker will be on the grounds during the Memorial Day weekend.

The Board asks that you drive only on established roads when you are decorating your graves. A steel posts means “do not drive”.

Again this year artificial flowers will be available at the cemetery shop if visitors would like to decorate a grave and don’t have flowers of their own.

Flowers and decorations sitting or based on cement will be allowed to remain throughout the season.

Those flowers and plants sitting on the grass need to be removed by June 2nd to enable continued maintenance of the cemetery. The Board reminds you to only pick up your flowers.
