School buses and children are a potent mixture, and the rest of the world sometimes wonders how drivers get through a single day. Ingwald Solberg of Malta has owned and operated a school bus for 25 years.

Any bunch of children is a noisy group, but Solberg has recently developed a new product to help him get though his day without having to deal too much with children’s rowdiness…his invention is called the Solberg Bus Horn…Solberg said he purchased the horn at a local auto parts store and installed it inside of his bus. When the kids get rowdy, he just pushes the horn.

Solberg said he has invested about $8,000 through the National Idea Center in hopes of marketing his idea. Quipped Solberg, “it works better than the pet rock.”

*Headline: Asks Reports of Abandoned Bikes

Phillips County Probation Officer Herb Friede this week asked all Malta Property owners to make a survey of their property to see if they have any bicycles and tricycles around their places. Friede said that quite a few such vehicles are missing and that many can be found if the property owners will report any of their property to the Malta Police Department.

Fried stated that frequently bicycles or tricycles are “borrowed” and then not returned to their owners, being instead abandoned in vacant lots and other such places.

*Headline: Auto Picnic for the Children

One of the prominent citizens of Malta suggested to us a few days ago that those having automobiles give the children of this place an auto ride to some pretty spot on the river where they could enjoy the day picnicking. He suggested that a number of ladies of town accompany them to act as chaperones and assets them in their fun. It would be very agreeable to the little folks, to say the least, and it is safe to say that every one of them would be on hand to take the trip.

*The ninth grade has dwindled from a membership of four girls and seven boys to a membership of four girls and two boys …it is hoped that that as this portion of the county becomes older, the boys as well as the girls will be kept in school for the whole 36 weeks.
