Phillips County to consider Community Transportation Enhancement Program ideas from residents

County Commissioners accepting recommendations for new project ideas for CTEP

Malta, MT: Phillips County will accept resident recommendations for projects that may be funded in part, by the Community Transportation Enhancement Program (CTEP), a capital transportation improvements program. The County will accept project ideas at a meeting scheduled for Monday, May 13, 2014 at 2:30 pm at the Phillips County Courthouse. Phillips County has approximately $50,000 in CTEP funding available for new projects.

To be eligible for CTEP funding, projects must have a direct link to the transportation system based on function, impact or proximity, and fall under one of the following categories: 1) pedestrian and bicycle facilities, 2) pedestrian and bicycle safety and education programs, 3) acquisition of scenic or historic easements or sites, 4) scenic or historic highway programs including tourist and welcome centers, 5) landscaping and other scenic beautification, 6) historic preservation, 7) rehabilitation and operation of historic transportation buildings, structures, or facilities, 8) preservation and conversion of abandoned railway corridors, 9) control and removal of outdoor advertising, 10) archaeological planning and research, 11) environmental mitigation of runoff pollution and provision of wildlife under crossings, and 12) establishment of transportation museums. To be eligible, projects must relate to, and enhance surface transportation and be located on publicly controlled property.

CTEP is funded by an allocation of transportation enhancement dollars the state receives each year from the Federal Highway Administration. The local match requirement for CTEP is 13.42% of the total project cost. From application submittal to project closeout, CTEP projects typically take about two years to complete.
