Skiff makes the most of her Two Minutes

Prior to Friday morning's Minute to Win It contest at Albertsons, contest winner Terry Skiff said that she was a little nervous before setting off on her two minutes journey through the grocery store in which she would try to fill shopping carts with as many products as she could.

"My stomach is in knots," she said and she moseyed up to the starting line. "But I'll be better in a few minutes."

Store manager Cheryl Voegel got on the overhead PA system and called out "on you mark, get set, go" and Skiff took off down the aisle like greased lightning.

Skiff made her way down the first isle, ducking and dodging the audience members armed with cameras who were on hand to cheer her on.

"Faster, Terry, Faster!" demanded one member of the audience. "Come on Terry, go!"

As Skiff made her way down each of the isles, rattling products into her cart, the time clicked away until the two minutes were up and she saddled up to the cash register so that her haul could be tallied.

Olive oil, cooking oil and laundry detergent made the stores scanner beep wildly. A frozen turkey here, a green blowup alligator there, the tally continued to mount as the crowd, huddled near the cash register, waited for the final total. The Capri Suns were bagged, the boxes of diapers and paper towels stacked neatly into the cart until finally the checkout monitor logged the final item. The verdict was in.

"$431.83," called out the checker.

The peanut gallery broke out in applause.

Skiff's face went from one which looked panic stricken to one of elation.

"It was fast and fun," she said, a little out of breath. "Now I have to go back to work, but first I need to go home and put these groceries away. "

Skiff thanked the Malta Chamber and the local merchants who sponsored the event.

Julianne Snedigar, Executive Director of the PhillCo Economic Growth Council, also thanked the local merchants who sponsored the event as well as the crowd of spectators who showed up to cheer for Skiff.

"I think that we had an excellent turnout and couldn't have asked for better support from the people supporting the merchants in order to enter the contest," she said. "I think it was very popular and the merchants will look at it again and see if we can do it next year."
