One Nation, Under God

No hunting on private lands has cost many

Dear Editor,

After reading Parker Heinlin’s “No Hunters Signs” article, I feel I need to let the residents and landowners know the ramifications of those actions.

As owners of the Riverside Motel and RV, we personally lost about $12,000 last year and about half that the year before from hunters not showing up and cancelling due to lands being closed to hunting.

And even though I am with the landowners about “no bison,” I can’t help feel a better way could have been found without hurting local business.

No hunters staying at the Riverside Motel and RV also means no gas and groceries being bought, no trucks being worked on, flats fixed, hunting supplies bought. No breakfast, lunch, dinners served, not dogs taken to vets.

Though we only speak for our business, the trickle-down effect can be great or greater to the local economy.

So we ask, please open the lands back and get word out that they are.

Donna and I love this town and its people for all the support we have gotten since we have been here. But like any business, we can only take so many years with these type of losses.

Thank you,

Bill and Donna Desfesses
